When I was in UoN, I remember I didn’t have much interest in SONU elections, but I would go to vote whenever a classmate was vying. For the other posts, I’d just vote randomly since I didn’t know those people. But I remember well there was this guy called Junior Tollo who was vying for Sports, and voted him because I’d seen his posters everywhere so much that he became a “familiar” face.
What am I driving at? People vote (and turn out to vote) when the leaders interested in their votes spend time amongst them campaigning. Someone might be inclined to support you but will not feel compelled to turn out to actually vote unless you actually spend more time convincing them.
The frontrunners have already chosen their running mates, and the disappointment/euphoria has by now mostly dissipated. But there’s a huge difference between how the two coalitions are conducting themselves.
Martha especially seems to have given up on campaigns just when Rigathi and Mudavadi are picking up steam. She seems to be spending time in Nairobi with Civil Society types Bonnie and Makau, basically preaching to the converted while different Kenya Kwanza teams are campaigning from town to town.
I feel like Martha is like the bright student who sees no need for reading, while Rigathi is the average student reading hard for exams. Is it confidence in Deep State that is making Azimio so complacent? Do they think that and positive (biased) media hype and opinion polls will be the game changer?
I thought Rigathi hasn’t been handed a mic for the last 10 days:D
Anyway Martha’s purpose is very different from Rigathi’s and Musalia’s…she’s not there to attract central kenya votes but to mainly appeal to women voters nationally…that’s why she was in mombasa this week and western last week. A week earlier she was in Garissa and before that it was Nakuru, Nyandarua and Laikipia…tonight she’s in nairobi…Your political leaning won’t let you see that.
On Mudavadi don’t count on him…niko ground…he will be very lucky to deliver 10 MCAs to UDA
Women are a slippery vote base and customer base. They are here and there. How many women have contested for president in this country and how has it gone for them?Have you ever asked yourself why most men have stuck with their barber for years?
Ever since the whirlwind tour of Mt Kenya, Martha has not addressed any other public rally that I know of. She’s mostly just doing high level meetings with “women’s forums” and civil society. Leo ndio naona at least she’s going to Kitui for rallies. Rigathi has been holding the mic a lot in Rift Valley and Mt Kenya. Just go through their Twitter profiles @rigathi and @MarthaKarua.
Why go through twitter when am on the ground…we welcomed her in Nakuru and again in Western when I was there…she was heroically received. Like I said you have your own biases which is OK…ni democracy
