Police officers rescue Ann Wanjiru after mourners allegedly locked her and her relatives in a house and threatened to lynch them when she refused to participate in a Gusii customary rite involving the throwing of soil into the grave during her husband’s burial at Gesure Village, Kisii County. The relatives accused Wanjiru of planning to leave her matrimonial home, prompting them to hide her 13-year-old son.
