We grew up in the culture where we knew that a conductor/ makanga is supposed to be the poorly & shabbily dressed guy with a very rowdy persona.
But the makanga of today especially those that work for the latest/newest ngayaz can be making more than u. In most Nairobi routes Makanga amevaa Timberland Original @ksh. 6,000, Jeans @3,000, Tshirt @ksh1,500, Cap @1,000, Jewellery @ 5,000 with a Samsung S6 phone on hand. The same makanga can afford 2kilos of miraa daily. Lunch yao is not the normal githeri na avocado ya mama njeri but unapata mtu amewkesha nyama , kasembe na kachumbari daily. At the end of the day makanga lazima atoe lock na sio changaa or 2nd generation alcohol. Wanaeda supa and buy Gilbeys or any other drink…utawapata wakiwasha ndani ya matt even after mututho hours.
Makanga kama lets say wa Buru huwa wameingiza box many working young ladies who don’t earn alot. Jiulize hii pesa utoka wapi…well let me give u a breakdown according to a makanga named 2pac who plies the Rongai route and operates with the nganya named Black berry (its the latest new in thing matt in Ronga and a hot cake)…yep as i was saying according to 2pac the owner of the matt only expects 12K per day &wajaze mafuta by the time they close shop. Tupac says hio 12K since black berry ni hot cake huwa ishajipa by 2pm. From2pm to 11pm pesa zote ni zao…he says haijalishi if they want to keep on doing squads or hiring out the matt for private functions e,g funerals ama zazile watoto washule wamefunga and want to go somewhere for some fun.
Anyway by the time they close shop by 11pm or 12midnight hao uwa wamejitengenezea another 12K na wamejaza mafuta …at times they even surpass that 12K… anyway 2pac says 12k ndio minumum…so tufanye hesabu…12k (6,500 for dereva and 5,500 for makanga) 5,500 x 30 = 165K per month.
I ask 2pac sasa kama unapata 165K per month mbona sionangi maendeleo ya makanga kama yeye kununua matatu yake ama kununua ploti ajenge…he tells me skiza jay hii kazi ina madimoni/nuxsy zake…yaani mkisha maliza job hata mtu afikiri mambo ya ku save…mimi kama kijana nafikiria pombe, malaya na kungara the latest fashion…Driver kama ni mzae yeye upotelea Sabina Joy… unapata kamzee kalikesha sabina joy usiku mzima after job akawekewa mchele na akaibiwa pesa yote…anyway to cut a long story short jay, sisi maknga ujua money easy come money easy go…ata tuki waste pesa tunajua kesho itajipa tena.

very true the only one benefiting from that b/s is the mat owner as his bank a/c is credited with 12k daily compared to the donda who wastes his. kange naye ni starehe tu 24/7 picking up girls from the mat and baaaaas form ya jioni ishajipa already kulewa na kudinyana. But these days I see saccos za mat kila mahali painted kwa hizo mats. If they aint members of the saccos basi hii biz hawajisaidii nayo. But there are also some smart kanges some who even save enough and invest it by buying their own mats and putting them up for business. It comes down to the individual but the SADNESS OF LIFE (hii line uwa yako)is that a higher percentage wanapenda starehe !
Truth the sadness of life alafu pia hawa ndio wana dry fry the best ladies…kale kadem ka -esto maringo mwenye ufanya bank and dresses well udinywa na kange
this hiking of fare is common in thika super highway especially the route juja-town and thika-town hadi it came up in the news hii ujanja… ukiwa stage one concodi tells you fare from juja to tao is 70 bob. you agree and board the mat. after its full and leaves for tao you see a completely different guy anakuitisha fare. ukimpa hiyo 70 bob he goes like “buda ebu adisia pesa hapo. ferari ni soo hadi tao” ukijitetea ati uliskia 70 usitake jua vile mtaletana juu na uyo jamaa. you just pay koz watakushukisha even in the middle of nowhere. hiyo ndo ujanja yao. kuna wa kuita customers na wa kuitisha doo ndani ya mat. laana tupu kwanza an old maadhe afanyiwe hivyo !
SADNESS OF LIFE
Jamaa kama ananukia cologne ya pawa, ana Iphone6 mkononi na anashow dem yeye yuko na degree ya uni lakini bcoz of joblessnessy yeye ni makanga una expect dem asi fall
Kuna dere wa 23 used to be called Kamwana, dude saved up cash and bought his own mats… Lakini alitumangia madame huko Kile, pia dere wa Kiambu alikuwa anaitwa Odhis, who by the way alipiga Chris Kirubi boof baff dame wake, he joined Pak Sounds met him the other day he’s doing good. So inategemea kange ama dere kama ni fala hatajua kutumia pesa zake.
To those who get into ma3 biz one thing becomes starkly clear very fast: the most important person is NOT the driver, it’s the conductor. If you wanna run your own you’re better off being its conductor than driver.
.
noma sana. hadi waligeuzia chris kirubi empress wa kwake? how did kirubi respond to that after discovering that alichunwa dem na donda? ama alikanyagia tu story?
Actually I think its the dere that is the star… Utaskia ati mimi napanda ferrari juu Kama ndio ana-drive but what I know most of the popular deres and kanges on any particular route work as a team, they move to a new mat together.
One day I pandad a mat with a hot mama I had been vibing for a very long time na hiyo tu ndio siku nilikuwa nimefaulu kumuingiza box. We sat infront with the driver who started chatting her up. In all my time with her, I had never heard her laugh the way she was laughing at the niccurs useless storos. They completely shut me out and were behaving like I wasn’t even there. Kufika my stop I had to literally drag the chic out as they kept telling each other ‘sawa tutachekiana’. Sijui hawa watu hutumia madawa gani.
ati hadi ball? hehehh odhis mjaka hakulala nayo class kwani chris kirubi ni mtu blank shots ama nini… @Mathice hio nae ilikua madharau roho saafi and I bet uyo dem anagongewa kugongewa na uyo deere !
