Mathathi btwn 1757-1791
Ndemi btwn 1792-1826
After the arrival of muzungu Riika ria Mwangi never handed over…, hii ni kitu wazee hawapendi kuongea kuhusu sana sana

It’s Rika right, Mathathi came first, then Ndemi came in later, needless to say, Kulikuwa na Rika Kadha in btwn.
Ndemi na Mathathi, each signifies a leap forward in the Agikuyu culture.

Mathathi:
For the longest time, Agikuyu prepared food by roasting, then the Maasai introduced boiling to them.
In short ‘THATHI’ soup, hence this Rika was initiated around the time of this good eating.
Ndemi :
Rika ria Ndemi, is credited with the expansion of the Kikuyu settlement. Ndemi which means cutting were responsible for clearing the slopes of Nyandarua, all the way to the Southern Side of Kiambu.
Why Kikuyu’s swears with this two age sets, remains a mystery to me ? Anyone out there?
