I’ve been an african all my life and I’ve never seen or heard anyone suggest that I don’t work hard, that I don’t try new things or that I kick my family to the cub. In fact, and I think every one here will agree with me, we’re constantly told wira ni wira. Our parents work their fingers to the bone to send us to America and Canada and Australia university so we can come back get good jobs and take care of our brothers and sisters and cousins who are still in school.

Have you ever heard the someone say if you compare yourself to others you will always come up short? Even those Jews sit around and say, “Now Indians, they know how to make money, work ethic, strong families etc, etc, etc.”

I’m still trying to understand how this story about one boy in Chicago --who for all we know could have been depressed, had crippling low self esteem, had learning disabilities --became some kind of poster boy for all that is wrong about a whole race of people.

A very great man once said these words, “Without confidence in self, we are twice defeated in the race of life.”

I am simply comparing two cultures (there are exceptions in every culture) one embodies success, the other one failure. You’ve got to look at the big picture. You will never get it because you’re unnecessarily defensive and narrow-minded.

Jews have always thrived despite of the injustices, suppression and violence against them throughout history. Take a Jew anywhere in the world and he/she will thrive.

I don’t think the guy was at fault in this given situation. He was just a kid growing up in Chicago. The place is not the best for a kid who wants to achieve much academically to grow up in. Look the socioeconomic state of Detroit and you will get what Iam saying. It was Oprah’s fault, which she admits, for not removing him from that environment. Remember this was a young child who was susceptible to environmental influences.The people he was supposed to look up to couldn’t even wake him up in time for school. He was a furking kid. In that school he was taken he probably met rich kids who came from stable families and probably had maids to wake them up and yet he was supposed to compete with them. That kind of situation can overwhelm even a grown up let alone a [SIZE=7]KID[/SIZE].

Just go in history and you will find a lot of them. In fact people started looking at Jews as these innocent saints after Hitler’s holocaust juu the world felt guilty for not finding a place to settle them there befor. Look into the formation of Jewish unity and the zionist movement.

How do you hope to ever be “successful” if you believe that you come from failure? Yes, our leaders are corrupt, we’ve been through wars, and we do not have as many nice things as others but nobady has it perfect on this planet. Most people are jsut like you and me no matter what race they come from. The jews you idolize have spent 2000 years without a home, more people have died in both World Wars which should be called European wars, than have died in all african wars. You think there isn’t corruption in America? Watch any episode of Last Week Tonight with John Oliver.

You look at the problems we face and choose to be pessimistic because it’s easy to be negative. I look at them as challenges that we will overcome just like we overcame slavery, white people taking our land, the wars that we ourselves put an end to. Another misconception is that you have to sit down in school and read a book to be successful. I know people in the Arts and in the Trades who are doing very well. Maybe he just wasn’t cut out for school. Oprah wanted to turn him into a lawyer or a doctor and maybe he just wanted to be an actor or an electrician.

So, after O ‘abandoned’ him, what efforts did he take to become something else not related to formal education?
Why are so many of you defending this guy? Keep in mind that if you read his story from different sources and get an objective opinion, you will realise that the idea of extorting O wasn’t far from his mind when he showed up and got into contact with O.
Remember also that his interest was handouts otherwise why did have to shamelessly sell his story to the tabloids.
Yes, i know that O can be condescending- like many super successful women with some self righteous lordliness- but still he should have told her that he wasn’t cut out for formal schooling.
I suspect if this was an Asian kid, we would be talking of a different story here…and perhaps Harvard University would be part of the story.
Still, i am sure that if it was another black kid from ghetto, the story wouldn’t be much different since AA mental systems are heavily wired to believe that thug life is the ultimate manifestation of success. Rap music cements this warped belief.
A 17 year old(when this guy ultimately dropped from school) is no kid. At this age, i had a rough sketch of what i wanted in life.

Self hatred amongst black people is a consequence of complex historical, economic and social factors. Colonialism and slavery simply shattered the confidence/self esteem of many black people and the consequences will last for centuries if not millennia. Otherwise, if i invade your house and you adopt my economic system, my religion, my political system, my culture/language and my technology, i will always consider you inferior to me and, once i grant you ‘independence’ and you actually prove that you cannot rule yourself properly, i will consider you even more inferior to me.
Forget these black liberation movements/theories with some lofty ideas about mental decolonization; whether you agree with me or not, we are all mentally enslaved by the whites.
In the US, successful blacks think dating a white woman is a form of social upgrade. What many black people don’t realise is that no matter how many billions you make in the US, white america will never really embrace the blacks.
