Taita Taveta Governor Granton Samboja has launched a campaign to collect signatures from residents to have the county assembly dissolved.
While signing the petition at his Wundanyi office on Tuesday, Samboja accused MCAs of holding his administration hostage.
Samboja said the MCAs were hell-bent to loot money meant for development thus denying residents the fruits of devolution.
“The county assembly demands Sh40 million for each ward to the Ward Development Fund, which means the county government will be forced to disburse Sh800 million to each ward. This is 15 per cent of the total budget, against what the law provides at a maximum of three per cent,” Samboja said.
He revealed that plans were under way to table a motion for his impeachment should he fail to allocate more funds to the county assembly.
The county boss further said, “For these and many more reasons, the county government will not be able to launch new or complete any developments already commenced. I once again call upon all of you to join hands with me and save ourselves from the assembly which has reached a resolve that our great county shall lag behind in development as we watch.”
The campaign which targets 18,000 signatures shall be rolled out across the county.
Samboja is a good governor. Visit Taveta, Mwatate and Voi. You will surely see a governor making a good example of how well utilised funds for devolution and apt priorities can change our lives for the better.
Yes he is.
But he is trying to pull a Kivutha move, which might backfire on him. The current Uhuru will not hesitate to dissolve that county and sadly Samboja might not be re-elected as the mcas will gang against him.
Then tumsikie tena kwa radio akitangaza after returning to peasantry.
If I were him, ningeshesha shini.
This is Kenya.
Sijui unasema nini wewe… All MCA’s but one in Makueni were voted out and Kivutha reelected with a landslide. Kivutha now has a team that he can work with and he is surely doing that.
Most of those who ganged up against Kivutha are now broke and regretting. Enda Wote ujionee
MCAs have alot less probability of re-election than a governor, i doubt they even have the money to launch a re-election bid right now unlike the gafana who has probably stashed a billion or so somewhere, plus it is unlikely that wannabe gafanas are liquid enough to attempt an assault.
Samboja amecheza kama master, in afew days utaskia the Governor and MCAs have mended fences and he has withdrawn the dissolution attempt.
Some people are slow in life …said @aviators
Makuweni county was there !..No counry government will be dissolved , never ! At a wakiuana ,constitution or no constitution
Hapa ni siasa tu, taitas have a habit of not re-electing a person on very flimsy grounds even if one is a performer. Governor atajipata out of a job together with MCAs.
Please tell @Electronics4u that people who change lives do not ‘cheza chini’. They are willing to sacrifice their cosy existence if that’s what it takes. Kivutha is now reaping the benefits of his resolve.
