Grandpa: Mûthoniwa, nßwandeire bßû?
Doc Oga: Aca Gûka nßngoka thukuru CIA hingwo.
Grandpa: Thoguo na nyûkwa mekû?
Doc Oga:(Turns a deaf ear angrily)
Grandpa: Thoguo ari mûcii?
Doc Oga: Aca mathiire wira.
Grandpa: Nyita Kanyamu ke haha na thoguo umuire nyuma gûkû.(Hands me some stuff in a khaki paper bag).
Doc Oga:(With a stupid grin)Eeeh ningûmûira(opening the paper bag with biscuits ).
I still hate those two

maybe Thagichu where you come from nyukwa is standard but in my corner of the woods nyukwa is not exactly polite and was mostly used by tuthee ngati who ruled their bomas with an iron fist and needed to put everyone down
or an abusive relative or neighbour
@pseudonym if you are familiar with the luo language you would know meru is not as kind/polite as minu

Same way in Dholuo some people think “meru” is insulting yet it just refers to mother. Eg nyathini, meru nitiere? Mtoto anaudhika atadhani ametusiwa

Translation please

A few years back, the terms ‘nyukwa’ and ‘thoguo’ were not derogatory at all. It is only that modernisation has poisoned our minds.
