Sifuna is positioning himself to be the Luhya kingpin. He read the tea leaves well. Luhyas were already on their way out of ODM after Baba’s last attempt in 2022. Sifuna won’t be in ODM this time next year, so don’t take him too seriously.
In 2027, the opposition will be a fragmented mess like in 1992 & 1997, and Ruto will slice them like a knife through butter.
It’s in every tribal kingpin’s interest to run (in order to build a national profile), but to also have Ruto win a second term. Save for Riggy G and Kalonzo — for them it’s do-or-die.
Look at it this way, why would a tribal kingpin want to crown a new king, then have to wait until 2037 to make a stab for the presidency? They’d rather see Ruto rule until 2032, then they’d have a second, better shot at the presidency.
