Youthful Leadership

One of the tragedies in Africa is the belief that it is about time young people took over the reigns of leadership. Nothing could be further from the truth. In the Kenyan instance, I would like to use two young men as examples of this tragedy. There are other examples; kama ile sheppart ya X6 (quadrijoint manenos) ama ile ng’ombe ingine ya utawala ilikamua jirani. For now, I will just use two young men.

1. JOE MUCHERU
Niggar came into the ICT docket and all niggars were like move over fossils, the youth are taking over. However, his stay at the top has only proved one thing to me; niggar seems clueless. Expectations were that the move from Google would at least boost matters at the ICT ministry. Well, I am yet to see that.
2. IRUNGU NYAKERA-PS TRANSPORT
What can I say. Niggar was touted as the best thing after sliced bread by our half baked journalists. http://www.nation.co.ke/lifestyle/lifestyle/At-33--youngest-PS-says-he-has-earned-his-stripes/1214-3114782-ki16y2/index.html

Today, he honestly believes that Uber needs to increase their charges because of a strike by taxi drivers. His reasoning; some drivers have been rendered jobless. How one intends to fight technology by using roadside decrees is beyond me.

I am out.

Uhuruto is testament that “youthful” leadership can’t work on this continent.

The African leader never grooms the youngster, they would rather die at the seat.

Kuna wazee meffi as well as youth meffi. Go figure.

Point noted and well appreciated. What I was pointing out is the fact that Africa stands to witness worse if the narrative that the youth need to take over is to be allowed to take root.

I heard Mucheru guy was advocating for Manual backup?

And its got nothing to do with competence
Na ndio wengine wanalia ati huyo jama wa centum james mworia will do a good job if he hes given Nairobi governorship, mtashangaa. Mimi kama kijana I remember when I briefly worked at some ministry I couldn’t hack it, yaani I had to rely on some old hands who knew which doors to knock when one needed to beat bureaucracy. Even a simple task such as booking a venue for a conference/workshop or hiring of consultants for a certain task, which looks straightforward btw, meant that I had to ask my seniors to call in favours from networks they have established for years. You call whitesands unaambiwa mko na deni mlipe kwanza!!Gava sio mchezo. Same with these guys, they have to learn how navigate through several competing interests including politicians, tenderprenuers, cartels, the public etc. Watu vichwa ngumu kama matiangi ama old stubborn wazees kama michuki na nyachae ndio wanaezana na kenya. Softies hawawezi

The first thing you do after, moving from the Private sector to Government is getting depressed.
Hizo positions zinataka insiders who have distinguished themselves from the rest.
Watu kama akina muthaura, that Guy was a nightmare to One Jakom.
I also think that, young people should be out there developing theirs careers, and building the nation as Technocrats before seeking public posts.

Exactly, it reminds of years ago when I briefly worked with Kinyua on some project, that was the smoothest period of my time in serikali. You just needed to invoke his name and that was enough. Everything would move so swiftly…be it in government, private entities, Intl organisations or foreign reps. Hata sai Raila akiingia uongozini (no pun intended) he will need a sally kosgey or a Kinyua to help him for the first few days

Agreed. We have Moses, Solomon and Joshua to thank for our 5.9% economic growth; being the leading FDI destination in the region, and being the country that will mint the highest number of dollar millionaires in the next decade.

Sitaki kusema ujinga, lakini usifikiri this thread was attacking the Jubilee government. It was about youthful leadership with specific examples. You don’t have to defend the Jubilee Government here boss.

My experience with the young guys in the government is full frustrations. Old poeple are extremely excellent

Did someone post how incompetent and lazy he has found young professionals in another thread??

Let us not confuse management and leadership. The youth can manage but let the fossils lead

Siku ya nusu mkate kuna jamaa iliiba pesa bila huruma …hadi PM akamwambia tosha. He was then the youthful Carolly Omondi akiwa na mwenzake Majiwa.

I think youthful leaders can wipe dry all the valuables in this country
