Yesterday one of the Introvert Jrs. turned 8.
I had rounds in the morning, meet some people, pick up the cake na kadhalika, all well planned until my once very grouchy neighbour hobbles up to my gate supporting his frame on a crutch and asks me to have a look at his car. It was very unlike him to reach out so I grudgingly obliged, and in doing so ruined some plans for the morning (@Deorro and @mariachi poleni).
This man’s health is failing. He has Parkinson’s so his muscles are not what they once were, and he has sight in only one eye. That sight is fading every day.
He can’t drive so every week someone has to take his pickup for a spin just to keep it alive.
Some dweeb mechanic saw an opportunity and lied to the mzee that his gearbox has failed and needs a replacement. That’s about 80 grand.
Mimi huyo, I assess the car and find out that he was only low on gear box and rear diff oil. 5 litres would do it, and cost only 1,800 bob since all seals were still intact. Sisi hao kwa Bedford hadi dukani. Tukirudi he insists that I use his tools. He opens the servant’s quarters and the room is like a candy shop. All manner of tools that made me look like a novice.
Turns out he was an acclaimed Engineer. East African Airways, Unilever, Caltex. A colourful career.
Then age checks in. Good looks, virility, bladder control, etc. They fade.
These things we take for granted.
It has been said here many times before. Let’s not con the elderly.
Our youth is fickle.

past, present and the future… Just pray that Karma doesn’t forget or develop shiny eyes tendencies to rob you your deservedly oil change when you are 80
Small deeds but they go along way towards ensuring that our place in the hereafter is assured…With all the good things that come with it.
It’s also very sad that a youth meets someone and assumes he’s useless and of no use yet a moment with that person would impart the youth with knowledge that only comes with experience.
And then someone goes claiming how streetwise and cunning they are…
not realising that even a person with an IQ equivalent to his/her age in years can con an elderly and sick person…
