Death is a certainty in life, if Gakuo had not committed a crime, he might have died at home or in a hospital or had several years to live. Choices have consequences, some dire. Any corruption he may have benefitted from, is useless in death.

The sooner people realise that crime means you will be equalised to live a life equal to any other prisoner, the better it will be in ending rampant impunity. For many of those who have been pampered in life, a prison sentence is the near equivalent of a death sentence.
