The Republican-led effort to allow Texans to carry handguns without any kind of license cleared what is likely its biggest remaining hurdle in the Capitol on Wednesday. House Bill 1927 would remove the requirement for Texas residents to obtain a license to carry handguns if they’re not prohibited by state or federal law from possessing a gun.

Under current state law, Texans must generally be licensed to carry handguns openly or concealed. Applicants must submit fingerprints, complete four to six hours of training, and pass a written exam and a shooting proficiency test. Texas does not require a license to openly carry a rifle in public.
“This bill, to me, is a restoration of the belief in and trust of our citizens,” said state Sen. Charles Schwertner, R-Georgetown, who is carrying the legislation in the upper chamber. “We cannot allow another session to come and go where we pay lip service for the Second Amendment by failing to fully restore and protect the rights of citizens granted by the Constitution.”

There’s a Washington Post article I can’t remember what it was called, but it explores how when White people do it, it is pyschological problems, sickness, something going on in their lives etc, but when it is blacks, they are violent, prone to violence etc. In the article it states white males are responsible for more gun violence in the USA than any other demographic. Most gun death, something like 2/3 is by suicide, and whites are responsible for a ridiculous percentage of that. Something like 3/4.

Pretty much the right decision. Because it is not the case that anyone can buy a gun and carry it safely. After all, people are different, and you never know what to expect from them. Some mentally unhealthy people will open fire in the middle of the street. I am very concerned about my family, and I do not want them to be killed when they go home after work, without doing anything wrong or illegal. I have passed every possible background check in my time to purchase a rifle. Put the best prism scopes on it. And I only use it when I’m hunting. What do you think about that?
