You Want To Be A Manufacturing Economy Yet You Have 2,300MW Installed Capacity

We have a long way to go.

Kenya needs at least 12,000MW in order to have any meaningful manufacturing

Hapa kuna Mchezo wa town unachezwa. Our Geothermal and Hydro powered plants are being stifled to give room for independent power generators to make money. There was a long post huku regarding this.

So ukiskia sijui hakuna stima enough, usishangae there are some generators on a ship already on their way here.

Very well said, we are being marinated slowly.
Very soon there will be infrastructure or electricity levy imposed on us! Yet the investment in electricity sector has been huge with nothing to show for it. The profits from KPLC, Kengen, Ketraco, GDC should be used to develop more capacity.

We are supposed to have at least 5 mega dams currently…

He said he wants to build at least 50 dams, and another airport, JKIA is a joke. Now that we are here, discussing how energy is insufficient in the country, and how Kasongo wants to ration power from household to light up the other, why is the government always creating a problem to the people then forcing a solution down their throats?

Lies. Kuna factories somewhere in Kenya zinatumia machine za kucrush solids na melting. Hizo zinatumia power nyingi kuliko hizo data centre unasema

The biggest issue imo is just how expensive power is in KE. I recall a few years back when Eveready and Unilever shut down their plants they said one of the issues was expensive power from KPLC… as it was known back then.

clearly you have no idea what a data centre is, and the heat it generates that needs cooling hence its high power consumption.

With Increased AI usage, the demand for electricity imekuwa too much now these datacentres have to be watercooled hence zimeanza kuwekwa underwater in oceans to cut down power costs. The Kenyan Economy cannot even afford to run googles datacentre financially, leave alone powering it via electricity.

Asante.

Hii serikali ya Ruto haina mwelekeo.. they want to achieve everything within two years..

Jamaa ana campaign hio ndio anajua.

There is a reason terms like growth and development exists. One step at a time. Focus on education, then health systems, then agriculture, then we can talk about power, Airports, Singapore etc. Lakini jamaa ana dream big na amebakisha two years.. huyo hana plans za kujenga taifa na pia hana plans za kutoka uongozini. Tabia za kilanye tu za kutangatanga

Mtu unatumia tokens za kplc what do you know about power. Tumia akili kwanza. Know your surrounding first. You think kila mtu Yuko same na wewe kwa nyumba. Power your smartphone and TV in peace.

Soma hii utoe ujinga hapa. “In its simplest form, a data center is a physical facility that houses and runs large computer systems. U.S. data center annual energy use in 2023 (not accounting for cryptocurrency) was approximately 176 terawatt-hours (TWh), approximately 4.4% of U.S. annual electricity consumption that year, according to a report by Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory.” 176 terawatt-hours is equivalent to 176,000,000 MWh per year, or 20,091MWh a day peak demand. The data centers in US alone consumes 10 times the power produced in Kenya on peak demand.

Sometimes listening to Kenya’s thinktanks is like listening to gen z’s describing the stock market. They have a rough idea, but 95% of the actual knowledge is greek to them.
