“This is in line with the culture of continuous improvement of service delivery at the Directorate of Immigration.

We are very grateful to the postmaster general and the entire staff of Postal Corporation of Kenya for accepting our request,” stated the Director-General, Alexander Muteshi.

The partnership is in line with COVID 19 measures and is aimed at reducing congestion at the Immigration offices.

“Through this partnership, we will reduce the number of trips that passport applicants make to immigration offices to a single visit,” continued Mr. Muteshi.

The move comes barely three months after the Immigration offices announced the scaling down of operations as a measure to mitigate the spread of COVID 19.

The PCK will take charge of the delivery services, and will do so at the convenience of the applicant.

A robust communication system has been put in place to alert an applicant when the passports are ready for delivery. An SMS with instructions and a link to the postal passport delivery portal.

Interior CS Dr. Fred Matiang’i had on May 26 instructed the Director-General to ease some of the services offered at their offices, to attract foreign investors.

The committee’s objective is to manage the launch of a system that will provide a framework for naming and numbering of streets, numbering of properties such as buildings and parcels of land to facilitate identification and the location of a parcel or dwelling on the ground.

The term of the committee is set to be 3 months, in which time it is expected to deliver 3 monthly reports to the CS.

The new system is expected to boost online businesses as it will make it easier to identify each house in Kenya, making it possible to deliver parcels to the doorstep. The system also aims to assist the public and agencies involved in emergency management, telecommunications, mail and courier services, other utility services in efficient service delivery.

Under the system which has been in the pipeline since 2015, street names and numbers cannot be repeated in different parts of Kenya.

NAS is backed by the Kenya Information and Communications (Numbering) Regulations 2010, which tasks the Communications Authority (CA) to set up a National Communications and Addressing Plan for postal codes, communication numbers and addresses in collaboration with global organizations that deal with numbering and addressing systems.

Passport security in Kenya is a joke. A friend of mine was not able to pick her passport so she asked me to do it for her. I accepted grudgingly cause at the back of my mind I know how hard it is for authorities to hand over an ID to anyone but the owner. Shock on me. All I needed was a letter “from her” authorising me to pick her passport. The guys at the cyber in the building will write the letter for you and sign it, if you want them to, for 20 bob.
If you are into identity theft. Kenya is calling out to you.
