why ugly art is sold for millions of dollars

someone draws a line in a canvas. A billionaire comes and sees it and gets a appraisal for $40 million. He makes a $40 m donation to the museum and gets a $40m tax write off. That’s why.

The same way you don’t understand croquet, sport sailing or lacrosse. Lanes

Okay so he reduces his tax liability… how though does he recover the $40M donated?

I don’t think some things are prized for their vague pleasure, it’s more about carving an exclusive niche where the rich meet to cut deals while doing drab and strange things, unbothered by peasants. Same as all the hype about tasteless things like champagne and caviar. It’s all done in pursuit of that peculiar quality called “class”

Hakuna kitu ka ugly art

Kitamboa art was viewed as a means of storing wealth in non monetary form. Nowadays it’s a scheme to launder money since no market dictates the price

Abstract is ugly and can be done by anyone.

That’s money that they’re supposed to pay tax on, when it is ‘donated’ or spent on business expenses e.g buying jet or yatch, the taxman exempts donations and business expenses. Hence the billionaire would have reduced his tax liability

Doesnt make sense because tax man wants 30%. So rather than paying 40 mill he would have paid 15mill to stay with 25. So no advantage.

Unless the museum belongs to a friend or the artist is a friend and they launder money together

Not at all, rather he made 40 mil, then donated the said 40 mil to a museum or bought a jet for the same amount. His business expenses are either a loss or breakeven, so no profit recorded. The taxman can’t collect his share since the business didn’t turn a profit.

Although golf is a public sport in the Western world. That is, its open to the public. It is a favorite pass time activity for even peasants. You ever watch a golf tournament is it says : US Open or British Open. That means it’s open to anyone to attempt. Even if you are from Kayole. The problem is there’s so many who want to try that they’ll put you in a knock out, typically on Tuesdays for regular events. Hapo ndio utajua ujui. Knocking a small ball has never been so hard.

Why can’t you scribble something on a canvas and see how much they’ll rushia you. One big deal and you retire.

True about golf open tournaments, anyone may try, but as for the enjoyment part, I’ve never understood how pleasure is derived from a game where you dress like you are going for drinks with friends, spend a lot of time walking about on a grassy field, so as to occasionally hit a tiny hard ball from far away, send a man or dog to get it since it too far off target (maybe lost in the fence), get closer, and keep on till you get it right next to the hole and simply push it in. You also need to have another guy tugging some heavy bag filled with balls and sticks hanging around. Then some funny terminology, ati a hole in one:D
Perhaps we coarse peasants should just stick to crude games of running about, roughing up other players and exerting real physical energy.
