Why Nairobi will remain BROKEN!

Nairobi city cannot be run like Nairobi county. I repeat Nairobi County cannot be run like Nairobi City.

Nairobi County is where Nairobi City lives and the reason why the city will remain stagnant with crumbling infrastructure is that the city is being run like the county instead of a city.

The solution to fix this problem is to bring back the mayoral position. With this position, the mayor will be capable of addressing the many challenges that plague the city while the governor will tackle the problems of the whole county.

Right now Sonko is trying to do both roles and it will lead to disaster.

With the introduction of a mayor.

Sanitary problems could be easily addressed as each area of the city will have its own waste management department, capable of handling sanitation problems like uncollected garbage, dumping of sewage, etc.

Emergency services would be easily be devolved being able to fight emergencies within each zone of the city.

Each zone of the county will have its own road repairing unit that will repair potholes, build roads etc. without the need of outside contractors.

This type of devolved management would essentially help address Nairobi’s growing issues without relying on fundraising from MCA’s.

With this, the National government would also be able to easily upgrade schools in each known zone directly since it will know how each zone and its associated problems.

While Nairobi county the governor will be able to address like having piped water to each home, upgrading peoples homes in the rural areas of Nairobi, institute a plan to protect Nairobi River instead of relying on the National government to do those things through Cabinet ministers…

What do you guys think? If such things are not done Nairobi will remain broken.

With the set up of a municipal government in Nairobi county. Citizens will have a much more positive impact and influence in such local government. Their voices will be heard and action would be taken in repairing Roads, sewer systems, security and water etc. as every penny spent in your area in taxes will go right back into investing into the community. Shopping at you local supermarket, buying a tea and coffee etc.

If Nairobi doesn’t set up a local government system this city will forever become unmanageable

Mulikimbilia ku vote for devolution sasa saa hii mnaanza kulia. I have always said devolutions and county governments are all based on politics and tribal. No developments.

Cant work… That would lead to a deek measuring contest between the two and more importantly more expenditure for the county budget

These excuses you are giving on Sonko’s behalf could be acceptable kama angekuwa ameshajaribu kusafisha city na akalemewa na county at large or vice versa. In sonko’s case ameshindwa na Nairobi yote: city or county at large!

And if it’s administration issues, he could very simply assign his deputy to handle the city proper while he deals with the county at large and saves the tax payer alot of money instead of appointing an expensive mayor. For crying out loud the guy even has a cabinet with county ministers he could assign these portfolios you speak of, so no excuses really.

And there’s no governor who enjoys the pleasure of being close to the president’s ear more than Sonko, well maybe Waiguru… but the point is, if Sonko wants national support iko tu hapo. Akitaka recycling plant ndio huyo rais, a phone call away. All the national cabinet ministers are also in his county. He has more sweeping powers than any mayor in Nairobi’s history ever enjoyed including a lot of political power! Mayor’s in the past were just state house stooges.

So really hapa hakuna excuse.

Every mayor beginning Margaret Kenyatta has been corrupt and inept AF! Kuna hata mmoja aliiba the mayoral chain !!

For Nairobi we need to change focus from Sonko to area reps kina M.Ps na M.C.A…these are the leaders on the ground who do nothing but hide behind Sonko’s shortcomings !

Siasa mbaya maisha mbaya.

Nairobi is beyond Sonko. What Nairobi needs is decongestion.

Watu warudi kwao

What stops Sonko from doing all these things you have proposed? Let’s not create another senior position that will burden the taxpayer.

You know it’s residents who maketh a city?

Our problem is that instead of having institutions that work, we have weak institutions manned by equally weak and incompetent civil servants. Then we expect one person at the top to bring a magic wand and fix all problems in a twinkle of an eye.

Can’t work, won’t work.

ION, Nairobi is a very small city. Veerry small. It’s not even congested. Only corruption, poor planning and an aging infrastructure make our city decay.

If Nairobi was the size of Lagos or Cairo or Kinshasa what would we be saying?

Municipal governments work all over the world. It brings power directly to the people. A county and national government don’t have time for us they’re preoccupied in wanton theft and destruction.

They’re not senior positions.

Nairobi had a municipal council in the past and it kept the city in shape. Those old pics of Nairobi all nice and clean were undertaken by the municipality.

Our new constitution decided to get rid of local governments in favor of big government where corruption easily thrives and there’s no accountability and pressure coming from the people.

Like I said running Nairobi County is not synonymous with running Nairobi City.

Without a proper work municipality the people in the city have no civic duty to it hence the rowdy matatus, boda boda nuisances, unproper dumping of waste, no public cemeteries, etc.

Institutions are actually people aka human beings.

Not offices, thick manuals, V8 cars or laws.

It would only duplicate roles and complicate the problem even further. It wont work.

Fanyeni ajeeee…hamisheni capital city ikuje hapa Naks for kitu ka 5 years alafu mpate time enough ya kusondeka hyo Nairoberry yenu then turudishe capital city huko.
Sande.

Nax needs decongestion too

But Nairobi needs it MORE!
