Rapper Julius Owino alias Juliani has denied reports that he has been appointed as the Director of Entertainment in Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party.

Through a statement dated Tuesday, May 10, the renowned rapper dispelled reports that he had been appointed to the role by President Uhuru Kenyatta and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader, Raila Odinga.

The singer also took the time to explain that he is not affiliated to any political party, coalition, or alliance.

"It has been brought to my attention that there is information circulating online about my appointment as Director of Entertainment in the Azimio - OKA coalition.

“I would like to clarify that this has not been communicated to me formally or otherwise. Therefore, I would like to confirm that I am not employed or affiliated with any political party in Kenya or beyond,” his statement read in part.

Juliani, who uses his music to empower and educate the youth, however, noted that he is open to working with any political leader who resonates with what he stands for.
“I am willing to join hands with like-minded partners including political parties that have a clear manifesto and agenda focusing primarily on sustainable youth empowerment initiatives.”

Juliani listed issues such as youth employment which must be addressed by political leaders seeking election in the August 9 polls.

Various social media reports had earlier indicated that Juliani was appointed to the role, prompting Machakos governor, Alfred Mutua, to ditch Azimio and join Kenya Kwanza led by Deputy President William Ruto.

However, Mutua announced he broke ties with Azimio because it sidelined his Maendeleo Chap Chap party in important functions.
“To this end, we have decided to break our ties with Azimio La Umoja. Therefore, the contract between Azimio and MCC is null and void,” stated Mutua.

The two became a topic of discussion after former Machakos First Lady, Lillian Nganga, ended her relationship with the governor and got engaged to Juliani before eventually marrying him.

Lilian later revealed through an interview that meeting Juliani was like finding the last jigsaw puzzle piece, adding that their values were aligned.
“I like to call myself a thinker but when I met Juliani, it was like I found the last piece of a jigsaw puzzle. His value and mine were aligned. Just the way he looks at life, what he values, what is important to him are the same things that are important to me and that is very rare,” Lillian remarked.

Mutua once said that Ruto alimfinya mkono karibu afaint…now he has gone back to him.

[li][/li][li]Maendeleo Chap Chap Party leader Alfred Mutua has been blocked from leaving Azimio La Umoja-One Kenya Coalition Party.[/li]On Wednesday, June 8, the High Court rejected an application by the Machakos Governor to leave the coalition led by former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
According to the court, the applicant failed to pursue internal dispute resolution and hence the request to leave the coalition was not granted.

The ruling comes in the backdrop of a previous judgment by the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal which knocked out applications by Maendeleo Chap Chap to exit the Azimio coalition.

The tribunal dismissed two applications filed by MCC party and a member, Martin Mugo arguing that it lacked jurisdiction to hear the cases as the applications were prematurely filed before it.

“We find that the matter by the complainants before our jurisdiction was prematurely invoked. The preliminary objection by Azimio La Umoja Party and Registrar of Political Parties is merited and upheld. The application by the petitioners is struck out,” the tribunal ruled.
Further, the tribunal also held that MCC and Mugo failed to present indicated that they had exhausted all other alternative dispute resolution routes before they sought for the tribunal’s intervention.
Mutua went on to join Kenya Kwanza and he announced his support of Deputy President William Ruto’s candidature for the presidency in the August polls.
The Machakos governor stated that he decided to join Kenya Kwanza after Azimio failed to disclose the coalition agreement signed with affiliate parties.
“As you can see, we have been kicked out of Azimio… you cannot sign a contract and no one gives it to you,” he stated.

However, the tribunal disputed the argument that MCC was not aware of the content of the coalition agreement noting that it’s hard to accept the assertion.

“No evidence was tabled demonstrating that they asked the registrar of political parties to furnish them with the document. That argument cannot be used as a ground of exit,” the tribunal stated.
