We are already in Debt, now we will be in even more Debt. Our current account deficit will increase from the current KES 615 billion to past the trillion mark by the 2020’s? Our Debt is already over KES1.4 Trillion and increasing. Our Debt to GDP ratio has clocked over 50% and risig(Doesn’t look good on Paper)
There are better, cleaner, cheaper alternatives to Nuclear Power like Solar Power. India Generates the same 4,000MW from Solar Power alone. Why waste billions of money we don’t have to try and impress a World that doesn’t even like us?
The Shilling is already at 106, it will continue shooting through the roof at current variables. If it passes around the KES 119 mark, the economy will definitely collapse like a deck of cards because it will be unsustainable. Already people have started selling Cars in USD at DT Dobie,DSTV imepanda juu ya tamaa. Supermarkets might possibly only accept the Dollar like in Zimbabwe. So it must not pass this 119 mark or else tutalia! (Austerity like Greece) Who the Hell do you think will want to bail us out? SOMALIA? BURUNDI? Obama atakuwa retirement when we need help. Trump akiingia ndani We’re in deep doo doo.
4.Nuclear Power, if sh*t goes wrong. We are in trouble for many centuries since the half life Of Radioactive waste can last many centuries before it’s fit for one to live in former contaminated areas. Some Super Power can even decide to wipe all of us out using biological weapons like using our Nuclear Stations. Anything is possible. Is it really worth it? Im just stating possibilities
5.It’s an avenue for people to pocket billions using tax payers money. According to World Bank 2011 report, Kenya loses KES 270 Billion annually through Corruption. We’ve lost over KES 6 Trillion since Independence to Corruption na hiyo ni estimate pekee yake.It could be more…
They have NOT told us the location of the Nuclear Stations yet. No Geological testing or Environmental Impact Assessment has been done to ascertain it’s effect on local communities or risk factors. I’m pretty sure about that as of now…
Wacha tuone vile itakuwa. <<<<<<Opinions are my Own<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
i see three of your six points are on financials. one is speculative, a what-if. in the last one you do not seem to have made any effort to find out what the Kenya Nuclear Energy Commission that has been in place for years has determined. No 5 is the same old generalizations…
how, then, does your post shed more light on whether we should adopt the cheap, clean energy or not?
We really need cheap energy wherever it comes from or we are going nowhere. If you are paying thousands of shilling in power bills to operate bulbs at home and run home theatres and lcd tvs and charge phones, what do you think is the bill for people operating 100+ horsepower motors for business applications?
Stima ya home ata ukitumia electric cookers inafaa kuwa affordable.
The problem with the african is also lack of problems or simply tendency to escape problems. If we had houses we needed to heat during winter, what would we do with 1200MW? We wouldn’t even run a single city.
But I actually agree that the economy is nearing collapse if it continues this way. Inflation always indicates that we are spending on unproductive investments.
Actually, for any country, if the net economic growth is equal to the net increase in volume of currency in the population, no currency devaluation occurs. If economic growth is greater, the currency strengthens. If the growth is less, devaluation occurs.
developed countries are looking for alternatives to nuclear power na sisi maskini ndio tunaitamani…with all this solar power going to waste…what would we do if we had an nuclear accident, and knowing how we do things this is highly probable,
and most of us never learn…stima kenya inaPOTEA ever since i can remember, few people have alternatives apart from petrol powered generators, with all this solar power technology
We never learn. Sometimes I wonder how we would survive if we lived in the temperate regions complete with the harsh winters. I’ve seen some governors (Isiolo, Embu, etc) wameanza kuweka solar powered street lights. Not a bad thing for a start, if they’ll cascade the same to the estates where people actually live.
We don’t need nuclear energy. Let geothermal power suffice. And the sun is always on our side, kwanza leo nimechomwa na jua sana. We need solar farms, and there are many locations for such. This fake sophistication we are seeking is not fit for us.
Bad fucking idea, we cant manage a small natural disaster like floods what will happen if there is a nuclear meltdown, japan is struggling to clean up after the nuclear disaster that happened nearly 5 years ago.
Unfortunately solar technology is more expensive and no significantly large country like this has pulled that off yet that they have managed to have solar as the primary source of power. and we get the sun for half a day.
Solar power is an utopian idea unless we find very high capacity storage system.

this is what we should be looking at…nuclear power tuwaachie wanaowezana nayo. Morocco has launched one of the world’s largest solar energy projects costing an estimated $9 billion. The aim of the project is to create 2,000 megawatts of solar generation capacity by the year 2020.[1] Five solar power stations are to be constructed, including both photovoltaic and concentrated solar power technology. The Moroccan Agency for Solar Energy (MASEN), a public-private venture, has been established to lead the project. The first plant will be commissioned in 2015,[2] and the entire project in 2020. Once completed, the solar project will provide 38% of Morocco’s annual electricity generation.
