It’s 2022 and Samsung still uses Pulse Width Modulation to dim their phone displays. A very simple explanation is that to lower the display brightness, the display power is cut for a few milliseconds. Basically turning the display on and off thousands of times a second. It’s not detectable by the eye --except it is, really. I cannot stare at a PWM-dimmed display for more than ten minutes and not get a headache from eyestrain.
(Almost) All the Chinese manufacturers are using DC dimming. Such a shame for Samsung to insist on PWM; I really like their phones. I just can’t use them. I thought it was an AMOLED issue but Amoled displays on Xiaomi, LG (RIP), Oppo, etc phones don’t strain the eyes.
Cheap computer monitors solved this thing a long time ago and even came up with fancy marketing words (Flicker- Free, etc). Why Samsung insists on using PWM is still a mystery. They’re lucky Trump fucked Huawei.
My bro got the samsung A71 where he always flaunted the Super Amoled display but after staring at the screen for 20 minutes while gaming Pes 2023 or call of duty lazima alie anaumwa na kichwa afterwards na macho zimechoka.
With my Redmi note 11 Amoled screen i can watch a full documentary with little or no eye strain.
Kila mtu anacheza kiyeye. Samsung iko to na pros na cons zake same to Xiaomi, LG etc. So basing your argument on Samsung alone without looking at other factors makes the threat sound bullshit.
Kila kampuni ina muendendo zake, na kila kampuni ina uzuri na ubaya wake kwa kutengeneza rununu. Kwa hivyo usiweke fikra yako kwa Display alone.
First: It’s not a threat. Who am I threatening, Samsung?
Second: The smartphone display is the PRIMARY I/O device for non-disabled phone users. It is the only human interface device you will use, save for power, volume and text-to-speech stuff. If it causes health issues, the phone is in effect unusable.
Third: This is strictly about PWM which Samsung insists on when other manufacturers have noticed the eyestrain it causes for a section of the population and are moving away from it. It’s not about other manufacturers being flawless. I will take Xiaomi ads, or Techno diarrhoea any day over Samsung eyestrain. Picking and choosing which device irritates less.
Get yourself a good quality Samsung mobile and then you’ll experience great features of the phone you can’t be talking abt Samsung A- something and still want to have same experience with someone using same brand but high quality, I’ve used Samsung since 2015 and I can’t complain currently using an S21 Ultra which features are great can’t regret the brand
I was to get Samsung A33 5G and donate this (a non 5G Samsung) to a family member but I have changed my mind.
I thought I had eye problems coz after browsing on this Samsung phone for like 10 minutes the nicheki TV, I first see blurred images before my eyes refocus. I thought I was having some eyesight problems but this must be linked to PWM dimming.
@Mungatanah hio Naomi note 11 iko aje in the following parameters;
[ol]
[li]Does it come with a charger and earphones in the box?[/li][li]How’s the camera?[/li][li]Battery life?[/li][li]Any bloatware?[/li][li]Frequency of security patches and software updates?[/li][/ol]
Shika Samsung S10 5G wachana na hizo A series taktaka wao hutoa, S na Note sries ndo hutengezwa vizuri/premium na updates unapata for long. Natumia S22 Ultra lakini kama ningekuwa na budget ya A series afadhali nishike S series from S9+ kwenda juu lakini hiyo S10 5G is the best mid level all-rounder.
