I was thinking about that a few monutes ago. About how the Mau Mau were disenfranchised after independence.
There was no dialogue to dicuss what had just happened.
People were trautamized by colonization. Jomo Kenyatta never called the people to discuss what had just happened and how to move forward as a UNITED country. Or even how to distribute the land fairly.
The guy just started leading. Leading people to where?
I believe that there are many Kenyans who never ACCEPTED independence. They just burried their pain and misery and kept quiet.
When you see poor people destroying govt. infrastructure maybe it’s because they don’t consider that infrastructure as Kenya’s infrastructure but rather as the infrastructure of the govt. which they are not part of.
There’s something inherently wrong with black people
Cops can’t confront thugs but will raid mama pima dens with assault rifles,magazines on their bodies, bullet proof vests and armoured vehicles
Then the commander will be there talking tough
Ask him about thugs, Na atasema how we need to cooperate with lo law enforcement agencies
Medics will let accident victims die…then go on strike Coz they haven’t been promoted for the past 3 years
And you can see the arrogance in the Kenyan African government by just looking at characters like Hessy wa Dandora or any other Hessy.
The is no difference between Hessy and the colonial government. He shouts very arrogantly at the citizens issuing warnings from above.
Even the way the small boys are shot, they look 101% like the fallen Mau Mau soldiers.
And these kids in the slums are indeed the grandson’s of the disenfranchised Mau Mau.

Even black Americans don’t respect their environment simply because they have never felt as part of the American dream. They are very rebellious.
And here in Kenya how do you treat someone like shit after they have fought for independence and expect them to treasure the country’s infrastructure? Their kids will be the mungiki and the gaza gangs.

since the musicians know that their music has so much influence on their listeners/viewers, why don’t they start singing about how to change the situations, how to unite and how to make their lives better.

Two things come to mind. i) disenfranchisement - the people don’t feel any sense of ownership of their country and ii) the feeling that the law is out there with the police, and not in people’s hearts and minds. So, if there’s no cop around, anyone can do anything.
