"A democracy is always temporary in nature; it simply cannot exist as a permanent form of government.
A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury.
From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates who promise the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally collapse due to loose fiscal policy, which is always followed by a dictatorship.
The average age of the worlds greatest civilizations from the beginning of history, has been about 200 years. During those 200 years, these nations always progressed through the following sequence:
What’s the point of democracy if people don’t know what to do with given freedom?
Then again what was considered democracy few hundred years ago can be seem as dictatorship today.
Any argument on democracy can be destroyed by “okay, then how you explain this or that”.
For example democratic usa that had race segregation and tested syphilis on its own citizens, who were considered second class citizens btw.
Today we can’t call a country like that democratic, china is constantly attacked for segregation of uyghurs.
The question is “Does it mean china is a democratic country or does it mean usa wasn’t democratic back then?”
If usa wasn’t democratic, what’s the point of democracy then? Way to prosperity as some like to say? No, ussr was second economy of the world, today it’s china.
So why is it so overrated? Because democracy is nothing but a tool to attack opponents.
10 years ago obama voted against gay marriage, now usa is very concerned about gay rights anywhere in the world, but not in friendly arab countries.
Plain and simple.
