Why Can't Kenya Leave Somalis And Their Mess Alone?

Somalia has expelled the Kenyan Ambassador to Mogadishu, Retired Major General Lucas Tambo and has recalled its own diplomat from Nairobi over alleged interference in their upcoming elections.

The announcement, on Sunday, November 29, was made by the Somali government which maintained that Kenya was persistently meddling in their affairs.

Somalia Foreign Affairs Permanent Secretary Amb. Mohamed Ali-Nur Haji noted that this interference would potentially cause a hindrance to the political stability and security of the region.

“Somalia expresses its regret in the government of Kenya’s overt and blatant interferences in the internal and political affairs of the Federal Republic of Somalia which has the potential to be a hindrance to the stability, security and development of the entire region,” Nur Haji stated.

He stated that despite the desire to maintain friendly relations with neighbouring countries, Kenyan government’s actions would not be further tolerated.

"The Federal Government of Somalia believes that the Kenyan Government actions are not in line with the internationally recognized diplomatic relations enjoyed by sovereign States,” he stated.

According to the ministry, the Kenyan government has been putting pressure on the president of Jubaland Ahmed Mohamed Islaam Madobe to renege on an earlier agreement that was agreed upon.

The deal had instituted that Mogadishu to call for delegates to pick parliamentarians who would later appoint the president.

This agreement ensued from the initial historic legislation by President Mohamed Abdulahi Farmajo which gave citizens of Somalia the right to vote in parliamentary elections.

This was however met with opposition from regional leaders who stated that registering individual voters would affect the political stability of the country taking into consideration recent security concerns.

They instead proposed in the new agreement that traditional elders, civil society leaders and regional authorities to pick representatives in Parliament who in turn pick the president.

Kenya and Somalia have been at fronts due to recent insecurities and issues causing a shaky relationship between the two governments.

The Kenyan government, in February 2019, had recalled Tambo from Mogadishu and ordered Somali Ambassador to Kenya Mohamoud Ahmed Nurto to leave the country over alleged auctioning of oil and gas blocks in disputed territorial waters of the Indian Ocean.

Because Kenya is part Somali ( by tribe). Those try and influence things back home using the Kenyan government.

We should look at the bigger picture, who will benefit with the “disestablishmentarianism” of the somali despotic regime? Who gets to pick up the pieces of somali once it goes to shïts? Kenya is just a cog in the wheel,a lot us at play here if you look at the chinese maritime silk route

Kenya will benefit greatly when Somali is unstable. Stable Muslim neighbors are bad for business. We should low key back Alshabab.

No one benefits from unstable neighbours. Jaribu kuguza Mexico ama Canada uone vile US watakuadhibu swiftly… yet they are busy destabilising all of Russia’s neighbours.

I’d rather Kenya cut off diplomatic and economic relations and focus on fostering relations with central and southern african countries.

You forget that Somalis are on both sides of the border. You need Somalia’s help in controlling movement ( people, Services, goods) from their side. And Kenya still trades a lot with Somalia from Miraa to charcoal. There’s really no option of cutting off relations.

If you go to the interior of Africa, there are pan african nyeusis who dont give a ‘shit’ what ‘arabs’ think or want.so,somalia is behaving like a girl who has just turned 18 and there are many men interested in her.soon she will grow older the men will go for younger ones.she needs us,the rest of africa than we need her,the past 30 years are a testament to that.

apart from ethiopia which needs access to the sea,the rest of africa might not be in need of somalia.its upto ethiopia to try and rope in south sudan and maybe central africa and join them via a railway line to somalian sea ports.otherwise eritrea is the best bet for ethiopia.

this farmajo guy has handpicked an electral body through his spanner boy called Yassin and wants everyone to sit easy it will be a free and fair election.the whole opposition is making noise, now he knows Madobe and his puntland collegue Deni know how to hold him by the balls like they did and he had to save face by firing the PM.We know nothing sells in somalia untill you throw in some Kenya.

Pan african blacks are a stupid lot. Why should central africa (the most resourceful region on the continent) join north africa? Self-preservation is a necessity.

There’s no reciprocal relationship with the horners. GoK should know that by now. The shifta issue of 1963 will have to be revisited soon.

You may have resources, but you need to sell them somewhere.

Somalia is deeply paranoid Kenya will effect its elections and we have a good reason to do so. The government in Mogadishu has escalated diplomatic tensions for months. Starting with Miraa, Border issues, why are we protecting Madobe, etc.

That doesn’t justify the ‘united states of africa’ delusion. Central Africans are better off working with the EAC and southern african countries which have related populations to build human capital. They can sell their processed goods to Asia, europe, america, and other african countries.

The GoK policy was hijacked by Haji and his ogaden clan. I hope the relations get worse until GoK comes to its senses.

The capital city of Somali is Eastleigh which happens to be in Kenya.so Kenya will always interfear with Somalia.

We have a lot of history and family ties with our immediate neighbours we cannot ignore even one of them.

We are more related to all our neighbours more than South Africans. If you go beyond the bantus came from congo mzungu history you will be shocked to find out that some of the your family members were ethnic somalis

I also want to understand what these guys are planning

They want Madobe dead. The Port of Kismayo is making good money unlike The Port of Mogadishu.

Secondly we support Madobe and this in turn has allowed Madobe a good enough leverage not to be ruled by Mogadishu.

When Kenya troops leave Somalia. They’ll be still a Kenyan presence in Kismayo in terms of NIS officers and others collecting intel and allowing KDF special forces to conduct raids.

I meant what the Kenyans are planning. How does Madobe benefit the wenyenchi
