Meet Simon Wachira. Wachira began his early life in Kiburu village in Kirinyaga county before moving to Murang’a. In the 1980s during the Moi era, he worked as a hawker in Mukuyu market, Who Owns Kenya reported. He had the difficult task of convincing customers to buy his goods as he moved from place to place to make ends meet.
From his hawking job, he saved some money and topped with a loan. This helped him open a retail shop in Mukuyu. The retailer offers stiff competition to big chains such as Naivas and Quickmart. From a single outlet in the Kwa Maji area (now Magunas Stage), the retailer has spread its tentacles to other counties including Nyeri, Meru, Kitui and Nairobi (Kahawa Wendani and Utawala)
Maguna andu is a legend, he is almost a myth. His story is one people tell hurdled beside the evening fire. He’s a true legend of what a man can do if he’s determined enough. I sure hope he has prepared his sons to take over. Would be sad if he goes the tuskys way when he dies
He needs to bring in investors the way Quikmart and Naivas did. Some of these supermarkets are just one poor decision away from bankruptcy.
See Mulleys.
Back in the late 80s alikuwa na Ka speaker na microphone powered by a car battery, he used to go town to town selling plastic basins and cups, later he bought a pickup.
Saa Hii jamaa ana malls na hotels, hope he recruits his son like Muthokinju did because Good Times create Weak Men
Surprise surprise…another shiny eye with millions of dollars of private equity money staring at him. I thought mlisema wariah have taken over and what not yet most private equity deals (where the real money is) are dominated by shiny eyes or local jungus.
Huko we used to pita tukipoint na mdomo like typical shiny eyes :D:D.
Anyway, ilikua mombasa ndogo. The rest I leave to your imagination, for now. Maybe hekaya one day
