Which way Kenya Kwanza? Subsidies or not?

Be clear Buana. Huwezi sema subsidies are bad to the economy halafu you go ahead and enact these:
Fertiliser: subsidized.
Petrol: Not subsidized
Diesel: Subsidized
Kerosene: subsidized
Unga: Not Subsided.

Kenya is a becoming a manufacturer based economy. We are moving away from being an agricultural based one.

This Rutonomics does not make sense.

Hata hiyo subsidized fertilizer will be a few thousand bags. Tokenism.

I’m not a KK fanatic, but in my understanding, subsidies should be short term measures rather than long term. Taxation policies are more medium to long term hence they are more sustainable. However, IMO, it’s better to subsidise production, which would eventually make consumption more affordable

Joke of the century.

If we are taking loans to finance these subsidies won’t this lead to higher taxes to pay off the interest?

David Ndii apewe microphone atuambie. He has been theorising alot hio bottom up b4 elections

Talking of loans, they are already killing the SGR , how will it be repaid. Populism ni ujinga

That’s why IMF is arguing for the removal of subsidies. Subsidies should only be used a short term measure, but not mid to long term measure. In our case, subsidies have become the mainstay because we are struggling with many challenges. i.e rising fuel costs, inflation, huge expenditure on debt repayment, rainfall shortage, Ukraine war, COVID-19 and many others. I wouldn’t envy government economists at this point

Barely 48hrs after taking over baboon’s cows mshaanza manduru? You thought he carries a magic wand along with him? The president said clearly during the inauguration that subsidies at consumer level are unsustainable and thus he’ll do away with them. Hata hio ya diesel and kerosene will only be for a month. Subsidies at production level like the fertilizer and other farm inputs work. If mlevi1 and munya had done that effectively, unga would not be 250/- now. I know cows were expecting petrol to be over 200 bob but are now disappointed

RWNBPORK…
All that matters

You expected it to end 48hrs after swearing in? Hata new cabinet has not been announced. Tulieni

Production hu subsidiziwa aje ?

Huko rifarodi Bado ni fixed price

So you mean that Ruto is not the most powerful man in the country?

I’m not at liberty to talk much about all these matters that seem to concern everyone on this thread but as I said before, wait for the next 4 months and things will have stabilized. There is a whole plan that is being unrolled step by step. When the 4 months elapse then mnaweza niuliza what is happening if things will not have changed mostly on commodity prices.

The current focus at the moment is how to bring down the CPI which is at 125.58 and the food inflation which is at 15.30. For fuel, everyone will have to wait a while because this matter is quite complicated and some very shoddy games were being played in the energy sector. What needs to happen now is to remove the subsides and with time, we’ll be able to truly understand the exact value of the petrol prices so that the mitigation factors can start to come into play since right now no one even really understands whether the oil marketers have overvalued the prices due to the subsidies saga or not but once the subsides are out then that intricate web of theft and malice will start to crumble and a we can get a clearer picture of the situation.
