So 2023 kuna shida Education sector. Na kumbuka bado kuna Elections that year.
Current class 6 will have sat their KCPE, and waiting to join secondary school.
Current Grade 4 will be transitioning to Junior High School.
So, who goes where? What merit will determine who goes to which Junior High school?
Which Junior High School, in the first place?
Come 2026, bado kuna shida. Which High School will the then Junior High Schoolers join? Who goes directly to college/polytechnic? On what merit?
There is the whole thing about specialisation in High School. Basically what happens in Sweden and other countries, and what we did in form 3, 4. Difference is, hapa, mtu anachagua STEM, humanities, technicals, arts, sports etc. I think Kuna 8 tracks to choose from.
Anyway, mimi sio educationist.
However, some things worth considering;
Designate specific primary schools per sub county (location is better. Alternatively, each sub location to have one or two) as Junior High. And some Secondary schools too. The fact is, not everyone will transition to Junior High. Some will drop out.
All those grade six to join designated junior high schools close to their former primary schools/middle school. Since no specialisation is required, this can work. Each school to hold up to 600-1000 Junior High Schoolers. That would be about 1000-600 schools. That translates to some 20,000 new teachers. Hurraaaaayyyyy. More jobs. Leading to point 3.
Hire the many jobless trained teachers to work with this cohort (Junior High). It is just one class of a couple of hundred thousand learners. This would be a good option since they are easily malleable to new teaching techniques, opposed to older teachers. Or, move the new recruits to secondary schools, while experienced secondary school teachers move to Junior High, but on a higher job scale.
Designate national, county and extra county schools as High Schools where specialisation happens. Hapa, itabidi tutors wa college wameongezeka as they are specialised. Teachers wa sciences na technical wako mbele mbaya. So any primary school teacher should consider upgrading. Secondary school teachers to also upskill. More work, more money.
Colleges, polytechnics na universities zitajipanga.
We should revert back to 844. CBC does not even solve the main problem that was facing 844 which was lack of resources. The technical subjects from 844 were removed because schools lacked the right resources to teach them.
This government specialises in coming up with solutions that dont even solve the problems people were facing
My 2 cents as someone who did 844 and then switched to GCSE:
844 is not comprehensive. It spoonfeeds the student by focusing on rote learning and you’re not allowed to colour outside the lines so to speak. Creativity, individuality and free thought are strongly discouraged and in some cases even punished. New approaches to tackling problems are frowned upon. The attitude is “how dare you try to do things differently. Who the hell do you think you are?”. Just cram, when the exam comes choose between 4 letters, wash, rinse, repeat until you finish form 4.
There is little to no room for extracurricular activities. Less conventional subjects such as art, theatre and PE are not taken seriously (remember the comments by the chicken farmer about scrapping ‘useless’ arts and humanities courses at the university level).
I believe this is where Kenyans are taught to follow the crowd and never try to be different. By the time these students get to campus it’s usually too late to change them. You meet a grown ass man in his 20s bitterly complaining that he failed a unit because the lecturer didn’t give him notes on something he could have easily researched himself. I’m not saying all 844 students are mediocre but the system definitely encourages you to do the bare minimum to get the job done, and you can see this reflected in how the country is managed.
None of what you said has anything to do with 844. Schools with sports facilities had room for extracurricular activities and produced the sportsmen you see in Kenya. Some schools had music and art resources and produced good artists and producers. It does not matter what system we come up with if we dont have resources the arts will suffer.
The cramming also has nothing to do with 844. We have very few national school spots and students have to cram to get an A to get to those schools. The schools in secondary also have to force students to cram to get As. you are not encouraged to think outside the box because you will not get an A outside the box. This is also another resource problem
And we also have a papers problem. People only want papers and not knowledge or expertise. We want the As and we dont really want to get the knowledge. 844 is just a system. We can change the content and evaluation methods with 844. what the government is doing is ignoring every problem with 844 and introducing a new system with similar problems and even more problems of its own
Let me put a spanner into your predictions. What if I told you that we are witnessing the end of education and the economy, as we knew it?
Vile vitu vinachange, sijui kutaendaje. Covid is not anywhere close to being under control na the vaccine will take at least one year minimum before it has circulated around the world. There’s no way all kids from different grades are going back to school like before.
There has been an informed rumour that this is a plandemic and the end result is a New World Order as defined in the Great Reset detailed document… If you look at the way the document itself is presented, you will see that it is graphically designed to look like the crown representation of the Coronavirus… This cannot be a random coincidence
are we sure this is not, “just another reset”, from the soo many resets we have had in our human existence? (New world order- replace the existing old world order)
is a new world order a bad thing? how?
A new world order is not a bad thing… it has always happened, naturally but with the kind of planning this COVID has had from 2009 to 2019, it could not have been a natural phenomenon…
and could all this be a smokescreen hiding the real events happening/leading to new world order?
if i was to plan for new world order, i wouldn’t advertise it to the world, unless i want to control the narrative.
also, almost everything most conspiracies have for the new world order is already happening with our consent.
i hope we won’t wake up one morning only to realize that the new world order had already happened before COVID
will you take the cure if it’s cheap and easily accessible?
