Mysterious miracles happened in Thika after police officers raided the town to arrest beggars posing as disabled people.
One woman who was crawling on her knees stood up and walked by herself after she was arrested and taken to the police station.
Other ‘crippled’ beggars stood up and ran as fast as their feet could take them to avoid police arrest.
Police officers from Thika raided the town and arrested the ‘crippled’ beggars who have been fleecing the residents their hard-earned money by pretending to be physically challenged. Thika sub-county children officer Linah Mwangi also said children were being used in the syndicate and many who are physically strong were being in wheelchairs to beg from the public.
“We realised that their muscles were working and when we asked them to stand from their wheelchairs, miracles happened.
The children started walking,” she said.
She said most of the beggars were of Tanzanian descent and they make good money in the streets and go back to their country.
One young man from Tanzania told Kameme TV that he works for his female boss and they make around KSh 4,500 per day.
“We ask for money here in Thika, then to Kayole and other places. In a day we can make around KSh 4,500 and so we share that money with my boss called Mama Mwaru,” he said adding she lives in Kariobangi.
38 beggars who were posing as disabled people were netted by police officers and taken to Thika Police Station.
