Not much news seem to come from those parts of the world. Huwa wako quiet sana, unless when wanawafukuza Watanzania kutoka Mozambique. They are not known to gloat kama Wakenya, ama zaidi sana, kama Watanzania! But now they are making news. Here you go!

Durban - Africa’s largest suspension bridge and its link roads are under construction in Mozambique in a massive project by the Mozambican and Chinese governments.

The bridge, which will cross Maputo Bay, will cut the driving time from the border with KwaZulu-Natal to Maputo by about four hours.

The new bridge will connect Maputo to Katembe in the South.

Basilio Nzunga, a civil and structural engineer with the project, said the bridge would span 680m and stand 60m above sea level. With two lanes in both directions, it would link Maputo to Katembe across the Bay of Maputo and adjoining roads to the border town of Ponto de Ouro.

Beautiful country wasted by years of the west+apartheid s.a proxy wars with USSR over Mozambique. They divided the country forever into two groups Frelimo and Renamo. Finally after the cold war ended they civil war ended with a UN peace deal. Kenyan UN led troops supervised the setup of the new nation and more crucially completely disarmed the country. Everyone had a gun during the civil war. Now criminals have to smuggle guns from S.A. Mozambique discovered huge deposits of gas at it coast line and already infighting has started over it. Renamo is back to cause chaos. All of a sudden the nation security is on focus again.

I remember seeing them on BBC making headlines for defaulting on payments to creditors. It’s usually very serious when a state defaults to pay for their international obligations. No wonder they don’t shout around. They know their place.

Surprising how a country comes from years of war to this. What if they had been peace all along? God Bless Africa. Although we know that president of theirs is corrupt to the core, probably richest man in Africa.
