What's the trick to recalling people's names?

Sometimes people think am rude, and sometimes it’s out-and-out embarrassing.

I can’t, for the life of me, remember people’s names. I can remember just about everything else: where we met, what we talked about, what they were wearing, etc. But the bloody name? I should be so lucky!

Sometimes I forget the name just SECONDS after they tell me. I need memory boosters or something…

I am the same way. I have a photographic memory. I will remember everything from what you were wearing to the way your hands were moving while you were expressing yourself. One thing I do to remember names is everytime you tell me your name and I have an interest getting to know you, i will repeat your name like 10 times in my head or relate your name to something that I have already crammed in my head.

If it’s an important person and you don’t want to forget, repeat the name in your mind 10-20 times. Tends to stick that way.

A longer term solution is to relate the person to a famous person who is a namesake. For instance, a guy called William can be associated in your mind to the DP.

If worst comes to worst, ask the person what their FULL NAME is. Maybe they only gave you the 1st name earlier on, which you forgot, but now you can pretend that you need the full name eg when saving their number on your phone…

I used to be that way. Easiest way to condition your brain to remember the name is to sneak it in a sentence. Instead of saying “Nice to meet you” say “Nice to meet you @Prometheus” Do that 3 times, you’ll stand a better chance of remembering.

Relax mblo, we are many. I’ll usually recall everything else to the minutest of details but somehow forget the name. I’ve learnt to live with it.
