Whatever Happened To DOGE?

You don’t get to a B(illion) without learning the art of hoodwinking the masses. Egg to the face for the MAGA base. They got job cuts, increasing taxation, token contracts for the elite billionaire class and blatant disregard for the law instead of the promised govt efficiency, making it clear the priorities lie with preserving wealth and influence, not serving the people.

The disconnect between rhetoric and reality is growing, we saw it coming and the power players will continue lining their pockets with impunity. Sounds familiar? Yeah, you’re living it–Kasongo’s MO.

The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), a second Trump administration initiative, claimed to have saved taxpayers billions of dollars by cutting federal jobs, grants, and contracts. However, independent analyses widely dispute the actual financial savings, and critics argue its main impact was political disruption and a decrease in government capacity.

Stated Goals vs. Reported Outcomes

DOGE’s stated objectives were to modernize IT, maximize productivity, slash wasteful spending, and root out fraud.

  • Claimed Financial Savings : DOGE’s official website, doge.gov, claimed over $214 billion in savings as of late November 2025 through actions such as contract cancellations, workforce reductions, and asset sales.
  • Independent Analysis of Savings: Multiple news organizations and budget experts found DOGE’s savings figures to be significantly overstated and based on questionable accounting, such as counting a contract’s “ceiling value” (the maximum potential spending) as money saved, even if the funds were never obligated or spent. One analysis suggested actual savings were a fraction of the claimed amount, while other analyses estimated the cuts actually cost taxpayers billions in the long run.
  • Workforce Reductions: DOGE drove significant headcount reductions, with hundreds of thousands of federal employees leaving their posts through firings, buyouts, or forced resignations.

Key Accomplishments and Criticisms

DOGE’s activities were highly controversial, drawing both praise for challenging bureaucracy and severe criticism for alleged overreach and damage to public services.

Area of Impact Accomplishments (according to proponents) Criticisms (according to critics)
Efficiency and Technology Introduced Silicon Valley management styles and AI for fraud detection; aimed to modernize outdated IT systems. Cut the 18F tech unit and other innovative teams, disrupting existing modernization efforts.
Fiscal Policy Terminated thousands of contracts and grants, and deactivated numerous unused government credit cards. Targeted programs based on political ideology rather than true inefficiency; actions often required Congress’s approval (rescission) to become permanent savings.
Workforce and DEI Purged diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives across agencies, saving money on related contracts. Fired dedicated civil servants indiscriminately, damaging morale and the government’s ability to perform critical functions like food inspection or wildfire response.
Data Access & Privacy Used data analytics to uncover cases of purported fraud, like social security recipients listed at implausible ages. Gained unprecedented access to sensitive citizen data (tax records, SSNs) without clear legal authority or security protocols, raising major privacy concerns.

Ultimately, DOGE’s legacy is contested. While proponents point to a cultural shakeup and the identification of waste, critics argue it created chaos, incurred significant long-term costs, and did not achieve its promised savings goals. Many of its actions face ongoing legal challenges.

Trump the charlatan ruined it. Elon Mursik could have done a great job if Trupm did not get in the way.

DOGE was Musk’s brainchild (a meme govt department solely created as a bargaining chip for those lucrative contracts) in the first place so Musk fumbled it all alone.
