I do not have an answer. I’m just asking myself and asking the great KTalk community.
Did GEMA vote against Uhuru or against RAO?
Did GEMA vote for Ruto or against Uhuru?
Do the GEMA people hate Luos generally or they just hate the Odinga family?
If 2008 Barack Obama was Kenyan and vying for presidency in Kenya, would he get the GEMA vote?
There’s something I need to know about this hate. My parents tried to pass this hatred to me but I chose to have an independent mind. I choose what I do without hereditary persuasion.
simply put it this way, gema people and kenyans are not kids to be swayed whenever anyone feels.Uhuru made them shout YA UHURU KUMI NA YA RUTO KUMI. then all over a sudden comes chest thumping telling them how RAO is now fit for presidency.
gema doesn’t hate Rao they just wanted to show konyangi the middle finger, that should teach other politicians a lesson including JSKS
Mostly Uhuru was the 90%…Rao should have kept off from the drunked. He over stepped his authority…thought it will last forever…killed most of there business…he even started insulting his own base(Mt. Kenya)…arrogance!!! Chura ilidhani ndio ilijivukisha mto!. Now we had just one enemy and he was one of our own. We could have stayed off politics…but he chose a side! And that side had to come down.
Uhuru’s 11th hour appeal in vernacular to the Gikuyus was also the last nail to this coffin.
Kwanza vile alisema haendi mahali he lost baba and Martha plenty of votes.
I think its a GEMA vote against the LUO. From the time I was a young boy to becoming a man all the elders in my family always spoke against the “Jaluo”. I was never expected to bring home a Luo girlfriend/wife( it almost happened), and the name Odinga was not supposed to be mentioned. Kikuyus were killed in 2007 due to ODM incititation and though Kalenjins killed us we still blame Raila for disrupting KIbaki’s agenda. Raila had no chance even if Jesus fronted him, and Ruto should always know he is there since we couldn’t deal with the “Jaluo”. 2007 also showed us how Luos would behave…those narratives of them refusing to pay rent are real…i had friends who could not collect rent from their Luo tenants and I know many who lost their rental properties in Mathai, Kibera e.t.c;we knew Jaluo had Kiburi…in short Kikuyus hate Luos…Obama would have lost the Kenyan presidency. I consider myself open minded and I even had a Luo girlfriend …used to laugh when I would introduce her to my folks since I knew my dad was freaking out…20 years later my dad was campaigning for Odinga and Azimio and he was driving me nuts this summer since that’s all he talked about. I politely reminded him he told me not to vote Jaluo but he brushed it off…its hard to predict but i think tribalism will alway be a Kenyan thing even 1 million years from now.
To know whether Kikuyu’s can vote for a luo or love/hate them, ask this: how many luos have Kikuyu’s voted in. It could be mps, MCAs, governors, or even student leaders, or voting in workplaces etc
About why Ruto succeeded it’s a collective which added up
Disappointment with Uhuru: 10%
Hate for Raila: 50%
Hate for Luos: 20%
Voting for Ruto: (because they were strongly represented & could see a path back to presidency): 20%

There’s something I need to know about this election. My parents told me to vote for RUTO but I chose to vote for RAILA. Raila lost and now I have a lot of pain. Will this pain kill me or I will heal with time?
It was a combination of both, disdain for Uhuru and decades of anti-Raila sentiments. And yes, Kikuyus hate Luos. They always deny, downplay, try to rationalise and explain it. Whether they’re justified or not is a matter of opinion, but the fact is they hate Luos. Read their comments on this forum. Listen to the things they say out there in the real world. The terms they use to describe them, like dim eye and orangutan. They can call it banter, jokes, whatever they want to absolve themselves of guilt. It still represents their attitude towards Luos. I said here a few weeks ago that there is no way Central will vote for Raila. I don’t know why some people here actually believed that was going to happen. Anyway now that Raila is pretty much done and dusted, maybe Luo Nyanza will finally start to think for themselves and stop being held hostage by one family.
The Assumption that GEMA only act upon negative emotions. They can only DISDAIN or HATE. They can’t LOVE or ADMIRE. That they can only REJECT what they think is bad, but they cannot PURSUE what they think is good. Ojingaism is a curse.
