Why do you need to clean a motherboard?? Just brush the contacts and the openings near the fan. You are trying to create faults in the circuit by cleaning and tinkering unnecessarily.
But if you must clean, there are alcohols sold on the market for that work. but they are more expensive than that board if you get the best of them.
You can even use water if you are sure that you can dry every hidden crevice in the board to near 0% moisture before plugging it to power. The primary reason water and water based solvents kill electronics is because they short circuit the delicate components when the appliance is powered, especially the integrated circuits(ICs)
