I can only draw parallels to the Swahili word for “index finger”. Its called kidole cha shahada. Shahada is the the Islamic creed declaring belief in the oneness of Allah and the acceptance of Muhammad as Allah’s prophet.

My guess is that it is referred to as kidole cha shahada, because those who profess the Shahada do so whilst raising their index finger.
