Assimilation was “in theory”. Before independence the whole French West Africa had only 3000 fricans qualify for this full citizenship.

Mbiyu Koinange went to study in the U.S in 1927. He was just a student, compare that to a West African who was a full French citizen.
Compare the impact of both Africans on their home states. Mbiyu Koinange came back home and worked his whole life as a civil servant. That was not an easy decision.
