I appreciate what you are saying, Taiwan declared independence when the communist party took over the mainland China and those who didn’t agree with them went to the island to get away from their influence. China is a very old country and that is a small bump and when it’s convenient they will go for it just like Hong Kong.

Just like the communists took over China from the feudalism and dynasties and proclaimed their republic , those who had different opinions and aspirations went and formed a democracy on Taiwan …
And they had every right to do so …

Hong Kong on the other hand was a British colony on mainland China which Britain took a lease on …
When the lease expired Britain opted to conditionally hand it back to China under the the “One Nation, Two systems” arrangement ( …it is not working well …)

You cannot compare Hong Kong to Taiwan…
