If you want a site that mtu ametumia a “template” ie all this person does is just install and not code, then maybe 20k/30k. And probably you can do that stuff yourself anyway.

If you want a true professional site at Jumia level, you will have to pay lots. I mean a lot. Think of it this way:

1. Any developer good enough to make you a “part” of the site → e.g (backend, front end ) is going to be paid north of 200K a month. Probably more. If that dev is paid less than that, or is unemployed(or does not run his own stuff) then kuna shida. Si kwa ubaya but the demand out here is crazy. Any developer who can do the entire backend and front end? Even way more.
2. It’s almost impossible for a single dev to build the site at such a level. Jumia probably has a team of 100+ devs working on the site. You might think it’s simple but there are a lot of things happening behind the scene(And if you want to be successful at e-commerce, you have to understand those things or have someone on your team who does).
3. Suppose you want to argue with 1 and 2. Fine. If it was so cheap then(and 20K), why are there few sites at Jumia level? I mean even big wigs such as Naivas, Chandarana are still struggling to get online years after Jumia came?
4. Do it come and tell us the results in a year.

Very true. The costs depend on what you really want. I guess you aren’t interested in building websites matching the size of jumia. Get quotes from local Devs but also remember to check Upwork they got really good Devs. For complex websites handling huge data, financial transactions, and huge users then expect to pay millions from setting up to maintenance. True those backend n frontend Devs don’t come cheap and you’ve to employ them almostpermanently

let me settle this. ready made scripts are cheap but are for businesses not meant to grow big or for short term applications. Can you imagine ktalk ballooning to something like facebook on this xenforo thing? Its impossible. such growth demands custom made software. there is very little you can do with a script like this. This is why some people are quoting 30k and others are quoting millions. those quoting 30k are offering to install a script they understand little about. those quoting a lot and are genuine are offering to develop a software according to your preferences.

The biggest problem with scripts bought online is that they are averse to lateral growth. If it is meant to advertise goods for sale it just does that. adding a major functionality is very difficult. Secondly, security for these scripts is a big issue. can you imagine amazon running on a script? Chinese hackers would have a field day with it. That is the problem admin has with chinese here on kenyatalk. they know the software inside out.

Another option would be to have a script but have a developer build a robust custom backend, but this is even harder than developing the whole application.
