niko kwa groups several kwa social media za pensioners wa huko US. wengi wao can barely afford the basics, na hawawezi afford kitu ingine yyote enye haiko kwa budget.

maisha yao hurevolve around kulipa mortgage.

na huko watu hufanya kazi ata wakiwa miaka 80, ndio waweze ku survive.

Watu hufanya kazi huko wakiwa wazee juu culture yao ni different. Huku Kenya the typical 80-year old anaishi under the close watch and provision of his/her children. Akifanya kazi ni kujitakia. Majuu it is a totally different case juu huko individualism iko high. Utapata watoto wanaishi different states thousands of kilometers away wanatupa mzazi retirement home.

Africans slave and save in their youthful and middle ages but retire beyond the sixties. It’s like jungus just work until they drop dead at old ages

But if you consider their budget and lifestyle needs you can see why. Most of them are third generation city dwellers. Mtu hana kwao. Kenya tunaingia hapo from 2045.

Bills za hosi hulemea watu kila mahali including huku Kenya. The fact is that nowadays kuna maskini kila mahali including huko mayolo. Unlike three decades ago, it is possible to live a better life in Kenya than the average European/American/Australian juu medical care, infrastructure, housing standards etc are catching up at a very fast rate. However, ndio uishi hivyo you will have to be a “birrionea” by local standards.

Saa hii mtu ako Muthaiga/Karen/Loresho/Runda/Lavington etc kwa mansion yake anaishi better than the average American citizen who earns $61,700/year and spends $24,000 in rent alone na hiyo ni 1-bedroom apartment. That’s why unaonanga many diplomats and retirees decide to just settle in Kenya than go back home because there is better value for their money. Anajua with his $5,000 he can access good healthcare cheaply in Kenya, live a very comfortable life with servants, and enjoy the weather bila stress. Why would he choose to go back to that tiny and gloomy apartment in NYC or London and become a nobody when he can live like a Shiekh here?

Ukiwa retiree in America you should do exactly what some cunning Black Americans are doing. They just move to Kileleshwa, continue collecting your $5k pension from the government, and enjoy your life. If you are smart, you can even invest the difference e.g if you live a $2000 lifestyle, you can save $3000. Na that $2k lifestyle is still very comfortable for one person.

Kenya tuko na shida za kiakili. Everyone is a VIP, and they feel that they should be treated like one, even in situations that don’t warrant. See how we drive. A small hold up and everyone is overlapping. A pedestrian trying to cross the road and we hoot at them snearing wondering why didn’t see you driving from a far. Fika ofisi and the very lowest ranked employee will try to make your life hard, unless utoboke. The list is long

If we can work on our discipline.. hio tu ndio solution ya kila kitu in kenya.

Pia me nilipiga hesabu ya majuu Vs vumbistan and I I couldn’t get over the fact that with my degrees n pedigrees I would still be a nobody huko. Better to feel like a lion huku tu eeeyday

Degree is mostly to help you reason outside the box. It is assumed that, by the time you’re done with that level of study, you can make some informed decision on the subject matter (area of specialty). So anywhere you are, degree doesn’t matter, ukue 254, or Yues or whatever place, if you can’t use common sense and yet you’re flashing an ivy League issued certificate then you’ve failed as a human being. If you get the chance, tembea pale Mayolo and discus ideas with your fellow peers or age mates, wacha kujifungia

In those countries, retirement is generally viewed as a death sentence because kids don’t look after their parents. Imagine working for 50 years and now at 80, your kids don’t even care enough to see you. Then you die alone and friendless.

And we’re the shithole country. :joy:
