Peter Tosh was not just the better instrumentalist compared to Bob Marley, he was also the better writer. “Get Up, Stand Up”, one of Marley’s biggest hits, was written by Tosh. The difference is that Marley was more popular & “accessible” with his music. Tosh was too radical, too “rigid” (borrowed from the internet).
Something usually forgotten about Bob Marley and which contributed greatly to his stature, is that he had good looks. He was a ladies man. Looks are important in showbiz.
Tosh was a man of action. Read a story about him na nilijazika saidi.
Peter Tosh was not a man of peace. He was a revolutionary. “Peace,” he told the feverish 40,000-strong crowd at the famous One Love Peace Concert in 1978, is “the diploma you get in the cemetery”, written on your tombstone: “Rest in Peace!” (borrowed from the net) :D:D
One of Tosh’s anthems is titled “I’m the Toughest”. He was so physically fit that when he performed a karate move he could look like he was doing the splits in mid-air. He was also a linguistic gymnast who developed a fiery language all of his own, switching the structure of words to give them new significance (borrowed from the net).
Mujamaa ni legend. The King of reggae. Marley in my opinion alikuwa tu pop star…
Tosh was an unruly guy from what l gather. Walisema whenever they landed in a new town or country to do a show nigga would disappear for hours to get the constenation of fellow band members. But he would arrive with the best skunk
I always say 80s were the best years to be alive [kwa wale waliishi], when men wore wide-bottomed trousers that swept the ground and tight jackets that reached down only as far as their waists.

The wailers were a band…the band harnessed their individual strengths to make them great…individually hawangeblow up as much as they did…they came together broke the form book and came up with their own style…which sidhani wangefanya individually.
Now as a band they wanted sold out shows infront of frenzied fans…had they gone Peter Tosh way…i doubt they would achieve that…but Bob was moderate and could strike a balance between performance and getting the message out albeit in a simpler diluted manner.
Tosh was hardcore radical and rubbed alot of people up the wrong way…including his own bandmates.
With Tosh wangeperform but walale njaa…with marley they could perform and benefit from their percomances.
Personally…none was greater than the other…they actually needed each other.
Nikama someone can be a great song writer but poor performer/artist and his compadre quite the opposite…dont you guys think its unfair to compare the 2.
Mimi naongea kama msee nimeskiza Tosh albums…jeh wewe?
Maoni yangu.
@Demakuvu maoni yako? Ulipata zile Marley Remastered?
True, it is difficult to rank the reggae legends because of their different styles of playing music. Tosh sang to liberate the oppressed on the journey for equal rights and justice. Nesta did the same but Tosh did it from his heart. In terms of performance…Tosh was a performer and a great guitarist. Watch some of his concerts and you will see what I’m talking about.
Tapeli saka album yoyote ya Tosh…google his most popular down load and listen then do the same with Bob Marley and the Wailers halafu tuongee…tuanzee tu kwanza na replay value halafu tuendee lyrics…Tosh had vocab & dark humour and hardcore ruthlessness but message monotonous Marley variety…anyway wote wako sawa depending on the listener.
Personally nikiskiza Tosh i just find myself nimejamu…uko tu militant ready for akshen…umekunja sura umeweka mbuzi mwenda na ni ngoma unaskia…but Marley moods ni mingi and he doesnt push you to the edge…Tosh ni ya kuchocha watu kuenda gwoko.
But wote ni elders wako fiti tu.
But dawa yangu ni Sir Gregory Isaacs…man there will never be another.
