Botswana Woman Lesedi Molapisi Executed in Bangladesh for Drug Trafficking
Botswana national Lesedi Molapisi was executed in Bangladesh on Friday, March 21, 2025, at 10:30 AM (GMT+6) after being sentenced to death for drug trafficking.
Molapisi was arrested in 2022 upon arrival at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka, where authorities found over 3kg of heroinin her possession. Following a trial, she was convicted and sentenced to death in May 2024. However, her execution was delayed due to political unrest in the country.
Bangladeshi authorities confirmed that the execution took place as scheduled, in accordance with the country’s strict anti-narcotics laws.
Molapisi’s case had drawn international attention, with human rights activists calling for clemency, while others supported the enforcement of Bangladesh’s tough stance on drug-related offenses.
Botswana’s government has yet to issue an official statement regarding her execution.
