A man who took advantage of a young boy’s generosity by giving him the bicycle to cycle for one lap before disappearing with it has been arrested and a theft case filed against him.

Isaac Oyoro Muchie stole the bicycle belonging to James Mutinda Mbithi on October 2, 2021, at Kangemi area, Nairobi County.

Court heard that on the material day, the minor was outside their estate cycling around when Oyoro approached him with a view of testing it for one lap.

The minor handed over the bicycle and indeed Oyoro took one lap and returned it to the minor. Oyoro was seemingly playing with the psychology of the minor when he returned it to him so as to gain his trust.

Moments later Oyoro who watched the minor show his skills for the second time requested another lap. He gave him.

Things took a new twist when he failed to get it back. The minor being afraid of going home for fear of being asked, restlessly decided to wait for Oyoro who at the then moment had taken flight.

Darkness was lurking and the minor had no option but to go to his mother to report the incident and she promised him to follow up.

The following day, Oyoro was seen within the estate by the minor who was then unhappy for his betrayal. He dashed to ask him where his bicycle was and he disappointed him when he told him that he had already sold it before running away.

Three days later the minor’s mother bumped into him and he admitted to having taken the bicycle and sold it.

Oyoro however defended himself in court saying; “Your honour, I had a biting problem that needed to sort. And before I was arrested I had promised the complainant to take them where I took the bicycle for recovery but I was apprehended before.”

He was released on a bond of Ksh20,000 or alternatively pays cash bail of a similar amount. His case will be mentioned on October 28.

A matatu driver along Langata road has been arraigned for allegedly bullying a passenger and stealing her mobile phone valued at KSh 32,000. While appearing at Kibera Law Courts, the driver, Edwin Otieno, was accused of stealing the phone from Diana Njui on September 30.

Nairobi News reported that an argument ensued between the two after Otieno claimed Njui could not afford the ring she was wearing.

The driver is said to have told Njui that she did not buy the ring, insisting that she had been bought by a man, a claim that she disputed. The argument is said to have escalated and the driver allegedly unsuccessfully tried to throw her out of the vehicle.

Later, Otieno is said to have grabbed Njui’s handbag and removed her phone. She reported the matter and the driver was nabbed the following day.

While appearing before principal magistrate Sharon Maroro, Otieno denied the charges and was freed on a KSh 20,000 cash bail.

The case will be mentioned again on October 25.
