Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru said despite being a married couple, she and her husband reside in different homes Waiguru said the logistics of combining and cultural limitations made living together difficult That notwithstanding, the lovers have learnt to remain connected.
Kirinyaga governor Anne Waiguru has disclosed that she and her husband lawyer Kamotho Waiganjo are yet to move in together. Anne Waiguru said she and her husband live in separate houses.
Waiguru, who tied the knot to Kamotho in a grand traditional wedding in 2019, divulged that though they are so in love with each other, they still run separate homes because moving in together proved hard. Speaking to Nation, the first-time county boss said even after their marriage, her husband kept his Runda home while she resides in Kihingo Village, Kitisuru. Too much work Besides safety concerns, the couple found it hard to find one house to live in because they are each attached to their stuff and they concluded that combining is just too much work.
“Think about it, you choose the furniture, let’s start with the living room, whose stays and whose goes. I am attached to silly stuff and he is attached to his house,” she said. Cultural beliefs also came into play as according to Waiguru, the Kikuyu culture cannot allow her husband to move into her house and so they would have had to get a new house to live together. Nonetheless, her place is very secure, taking into account her life as a politician and Kamotho is always assured of her safety when she is at her Kitusuru mansion. “Even when he travels, he feels safer when I am here than when I am in Runda,” she said. Bonding on Sundays The lovers have found a way to navigate their relationship and set aside Sundays as their time to bond and have fun.
“Sundays are exclusively mine and Kamotho’s. Even the children know that. Saturdays are for the whole family while Sundays are ours,” Waiguru said. Interestingly, the governor said she has known Kamotho for more than a decade and has been her pillar for over 12 years. On whether the two will have a baby together, this is what the Kirinyaga county chief had to say: “I don’t even think I can cope. Even the grandchildren, they move around here a little bit and you already feel it is a lot of work,” she said alluding that she and her husband do not plan on having babies together. Blissful marriage A few weeks ago, Waiguru said the reason behind her ever-glistening face is the happiness she gets from her husband. The former Devolution Cabinet Secretary painted the picture of a happily-ever-after union after briefly talking of her marriage. “If you just look at me, you can already tell. From the day I got married until now, I have added some weight meaning I am so happy because I am also always smiling. My marriage is really good,” she said showing off an ear to ear smile.
