  1. Charity is used by the rich for PR reasons and to boost their brand. Sikatai any help is good, but there is a reason they always publicize the donations. They get a return on that “investment” from the publicity. Celebrities and other super wealthy people are not as selfless as you think. Charities also help them network and feel good about themselves.
  2. $10 million is peanuts to them. Oprah alone is worth $2.5 billion and The Rock is worth $800 million. After the first $50M, life is basically the same for the rich. That’s why they can donate such large figures juu in reality they are not going to feel the pinch at all. Wewe ukiwa na Ksh 20 million ukitoa 100k itakuuma kuliko vile inaweza uma Oprah akitoa $10 million. Nothing about her lifestyle is going to change but her star power will rise because of that donation.
  3. Personal selfish interests: Oprah has over 1000 acres in Maui. The Rock is from Hawaii and his family all hail from there. If you own a lot of property in an area, it is in your best interest to help them because if you don’t your property value may drop so $5M is nothing. By the way its a fund that they have kickstarted so they expect the gullible American middle class to also contribute while they take all the credit.

Very nais… and the icing on the cake is, charitable deductions are claimed on taxes to allow the donor to get tax breaks. Ni wajanja sana.

Donation is sent to a organization either owned or associated with the donor. The donor still has access to the same funds, just in a different account. Donor can now spend that money tax free, and avoid paying tax on major purchases since the charity org gets exemption from taxes.

The funny thing is that you never meet anyone that’s benefited from such donations. Why? They direct the donations to trusts they control. So they form a trust and hire friends to run it. Then direct such donations to the trust. Those friends collect high salaries. The amount that goes to victims is less than 20%.

But the celebrity gets a tax break on their income equal to the charitable amount. Their friends stay happy.
