The development strategy has been a victim of priority changes due to political transitions.
According to Kenya Public Expenditure Review published by the World Bank, 40 percent of the projects became white elephants during the transition.
The World Bank has called for cancellation of incomplete infrastructure projects worth Sh1.1 trillion saying that Kenya which only set aside Sh516 billion for all development projects is not likely to fund the 522 dormant ones which are increasing financing pressure and pilling up pending bills.
The country is currently on the third plan and is mostly focused on the Big Four agenda of trade manufacturing, universal healthcare and agriculture and affordable housing.
In a report titled Post Covid-19 Economic Recovery Strategy 2020-22, the National Treasury noted that as at August 2020, the stock of public debt stood at Sh7.06 trillion, 69.2 per cent of GDP. “This together with committed undisbursed debt of Sh1.35 trillion translates to a stock of public debt of Sh8.41 trillion against a ceiling of Sh9 trillion, which implies limited space for additional borrowing,” Treasury said
Well, you all know which transitions happened. You also have read above you only needed 1.1 trillion to complete incomplete infrastructure projects, where was the money borrowed going? What happened to laptops for kids, medical equipment etc.
Misplaced priorities, state capture, bandit economy. Kenya is just Nairobi, delete Nairobi and you have no Kenya, just worlds poorest landmass. Uhuru should have been Nairobi governor, what has changed in your ushago ever since Kibaki left? Leave out projects initiated by Kibaki and they run for so many years, because you know, projects initiated by Uhuru and they run for so many years are things like laptops, medical equipment, sgr, vehicle leasing and online systems which aborted like that for health system, and huduma no etc
Or he could have been a good minister for ‘information and public relations’.If we must borrow, the terms must be atleast fair to us and invest the money wisely, hapa we have nothing to show.
