USIU Kenya ~ Master of Science in Information Systems and Technology

How good is this course? What other masters program do you think are better than this? Is Strathmore better? How’s the job market?

If you are doing it for job market, it’s not worth it bro. That was for undergraduate. For masters and any further studies after undergraduate need to be about a purpose and greater conviction than life itself.

For career growth its ok, but that means you are already in employment and most likely in some form of junior management or higher.

If it’s for getting a starting job, wacha.

The way I know it, the IT field itself is always open for further learning when going through your day to day activities. You should be the one to coke up with concepts that should be taught to Masters students.

IT is the shittiest course I know…7/10 jobless graduates i meet wamesomea IT

IT focus on professional courses and registration to professional bodies.

In this line of field there’s no general term for IT. Hardly will you find an employer looking for an “IT Officer” nowadays.
You have to specialise. You are one of these:-

  1. Systems Administrator
  2. Systems Analyst
  3. Systems Developer(Web,Mobile or Desktop based)
  4. Networks Admin and or Engineer
    5.UX Developer
  5. Network Security
  6. Database Administrator

Just to name a few. And recently the trend is shifting towards cloud computing and machine learning.

So you specialize and choose which line favours your skill set or liking. Otherwise you will be fulfilling the old adage of Jack of all trades but a master of none.

I don’t have any experience but Its all paid for so I’m incurring zero expense. Is it still worth it?

I don’t have a job yet. So is it better to enroll in a new undergraduate program than get into the masters?

Any recommendations would come in handy.

If you have cleared an undergraduate programme in IT why not actively seek a job in the same field first? That would be a great starting point since I think it will give you a subjective experience in the field. I don’t think a masters level programme will help you in your career much if you don’t get real life experience.

If I were you I would start with some certification, oracle, Microsoft, Cisco e.t.c those will be better getting you into the work world, then you can do masters after you have some experience.

If it’s a master you really want at this stage go to any of the public universities and aim for a PhD in the same and go into teaching.

True,as @sitaki sitakihas said focus on getting certified, you will advance faster, you can save the Masters for later…Also know your area of specialization is it. Security, website development etc
