Businesses will start charging clients in dollars. If this happens, then gov’t will either be forced to declare USD as the national currency OR force businesses to continue using KESH in which case they’ll hike prices massively to keep up with the shilling inflation. Somehow, Kenyans try to peg their currency (and interestingly the cost of labor) against the USD which is crazy since Kenya’s economy is wildly poor.
I don’t know why Kenyans think that they deserve to transact in dollars when the economy is not at that level. Nobody wants to admit that everything in Kenya is over-valued because Kenyans think they’re Americans.
The logical thing to do would be for Kenyans to accept that they’re poor and devalue the price of everything by HALF. This means fuel should start going at 100 instead of 200, houses worth 50M should start going at 15M, land that costs 1B should now only cost 100M. Lakini the problem is Kenya is run by cartels who will never allow the balancing of the Kenyan economy.
Good luck if you decide to start adopting USD in Kenya over the shilling.
