US Goes after Chinese Students

U.S. delays tariffs for allies

• The Trump administration will give the European Union, Canada and Mexico another 30-day exemption from steel and aluminum tariffs, which had been set to go into effect today.

The decision is expected to at least temporarily help ties with those allies as the U.S. prepares for tricky negotiations with North Korea and considers abandoning the Iran nuclear deal.

For its part, China says it will refuse to discuss President Trump’s two toughest trade demands when American officials arrive in Beijing this week.

• As the trade dispute escalates, Washington is considering prohibiting Chinese citizens from performing sensitive research in the U.S. It fears that students and researchers could help Beijing’s plan to dominate cutting-edge technologies.

The protectionism on another level.

Mobile money transfer was discovered and developed in Kenya. See how it has revolutionised the world of payments!! Hata wakiwazuia waChina kuingia kwao, miracles will be happening where they least expect them to happen!

Likely unconstitutional if it uses national origin as a criteria, many of those who do sensitive research are “US citizens” anyways.

Unfortunately the intellectual property rights were legally stolen, when they could have translated into perpetual royalties which is how long “dead” companies like Blackberry still have a heartbeat.

USA acting like a jilted lover

@obienga, the constitution will not stop Drumpf. But they can easily get around that by reclassifying the research.

They can do that and reclassify the research but that’s where they will again hit a dead end because amongst many multi-generational nationals few have as much attachment to their homelands than the Chinese and Russians. If there is any espionage happening it is mostly happening with the connivance and cooperation of actual US citizens against whom reclassification has little effect. Students doing advanced research rarely discover what is existing, rather they discover what is new. Prevent them and they will simply take that knowledge and discovery elsewhere.

Alright, ndugu… I agree with the general thesis because scientific inquiry cannot be halted by choosing who is going to conduct it, but that right there is a “shaky” statement. …requires an uncomfortable leap of faith.

Drumpf is like a man in a maze: his very first decision was wrong and subsequent moves remain wrong. He does not remember his previous moves.

its about time before its replicated here in Kenya and Tanzanian students sent parking
