Bringing Kagame and Tsishekidi in the same room is no mean feat given what is going on in Bukavu and Rubavu at the moment. Uhuru amejaribu sana.
Even M23 rebels hawataki kuwachwa kwa hizi talks za Uhunye even though aliwakataza kukuja last month during the last Nairobi talks. They respect mzito Uhuru as a neutral arbitor.
@Agwambo has huge shoes to fill to get the momentum of the regional peace keeping force going in Eastern DRC…once Uhuru leaves office.

I have never seen the region so united for a cause in such a manner.
As Chairman of the EAC, Uhunye’s diplomacy is showing fruits wadau. Amejaribu sana despite his flaws…
Honestly though, I doubt this drunk will manage to change the dynamics in eastern drc. A country as dysfunctional as that can’t be fixed with summits and peace talks
Rwanda and Uganda understand that region better, he should focus on Somalia - better chance there. lakini one can see where this is headed, he wants after leaving office apatiwe that role of a peace diplomat in the drc. m7 and his brother pk will chew him hapa.
Sasa hiyo ghaseer ya Uganda imevaa military jacket ya nini? Anyway, what uhunye is doing is commendable, even though I doubt it will have any actual effect on the ground.
Generally, I don’t like the way fools ignore the massive interference by ALL the developed countries in DRC. The interference is mainly aimed at securing perpetual rights to mineral resources and preventing Congolese from gaining ability to exploit their own mineral resources.
Getting Kenya voted into the security council, not getting dragged down into chokosh wars with Maghufuli, bringing somaliland into Kenya’s sphere of influence to undermine anti-kenya elements in Mogadishu, improved bilateral trade with African countries like Tanzania and South Africa, DRC, and increased number of new embassies catering for the wider region - all based in Kenya.
And finally, bridging the gap with black diaspora countries in the Carribean like Jamaica and Barbados. I hear @LuandaMagere will be spear heading black diplomacy huko. Remember the increased diplomatic visits?
Not well I am afraid. But there is a reason. UN mandates are often vaguely defined. And when clearly defined, they are often restricted to protecting civilian areas rather than going for ofesnsive search and destroy missions.
Who is going to fund these joint military operations?
Sisi wenyewe. A good example was the recent budgetary allocation in Uganda by parliament for the anti ADF operations in North Kivu and Ituri provinces. Saa hii hizo burukenge have been pushed deep into the forest away from civilian areas. Burundi is also hammering Burundian rebels hiding in Eastern DRC huko South Kivu. All these operations are funded by the yearly budget.
How will Kenya prevent Uganda or Rwanda from attacking Kenyan troops via proxy the same way Rwanda killed Tanzanian peacekeepers a while ago?
I will single out Rwanda and say this. Rwanda cannot afford to be a pariah state by continously antagonizing Congo. All of the EAC member states except Rwanda have recently signed bilateral ties with DRC that extends into even having joint infrastructure projects all of which have secured funding. Kagame even said that Kigali is being isolated by the DRC.
Why is Tanzania silent in all of this?
Because President Suluhu is not keen on these regional blocs. Hata SADC meetings haendangi.
Even the peace keeping mission in Northern Mozambique, a Tanzania neighbour btw, Tanzania hawashindanii. In fact it is Rwandese troops doing the heavy lifting there against Al shabab.
So that is to be expected of Tanzania even when it comes to EAC matters.
About 10years ago we actually did some small research where we came to a conclusion that some important region building milestones in Africa have actually been achieved during head’s of state summits. These guys occasionally go off script and throw away their own bureaucrats guidance while making some tough regional decisions.
Generally, I think all this muhahe is driven by the equity bank expansion into DRC.
They bought a bank saw how much money there is and now Kenya’s elite want to get in on that and are using public money to do so and we’ll wait & see how it goes
Ulijoin Ktalk lini? Because it seems like youre the only peron around completely unaware of what the UN is doing in DRC. 5% peacekeeping. 95% hunting for minerals.
