Understanding the Kenyan e-passport

Anyone who has ever applied for a passport in this country knows how tiring and frustrating it can be. From endless quees to incompetent staff at immigration offices add corruption to that and you have Kenyan government service delivery in government offices. My passport was acquired after a very long wait and difficult trips to nyayo house. I had sought to acquire it in my private citizen capacity so I never involved my employer in the process since I didn’t want it to state that am a government official (since it requires clearance when traveling) my attempt was however futile . So you can imagine my disappointment when our deadline for acquisition of the e passport has been pushed back to March 31st 2019! As of April the black one won’t be worth the paper it’s printed on! I thought as a bearer of a current one I thought all you need is surrender the black one , pay the requisite fees and be on your way !!! Turns out the joke is on me !!! Kila kitu unaanza afresh !!! Filling paperwork, new pic (thought they had the old one on file!) And queing Kama kawaida! Yaani nikikumbuka ile lap nilipiga pale nyayo nakasirika Sana. For all the troubles sijui Kama hii passport taruhusu kuingia Kila nchi ya afrika mashariki bila Visa ama vipi (seeing as it is written East Africa!) Before Maj Gen kihalangwa streamlined the immigration department passport issuing offices had sprout out all over Kenya he shut them and left three Nairobi kisumu and Mombasa…but service delivery has since died out and cartels have slowly crawled back! Share your crazy passport application nightmare…

Umenirudisha mbali sana. Acquiring my Kenyan passport a decade ago was a herculean task. Why do they behave like they are doing us a favour and it is their job? Hata huku kwa diaspora. Going to the Kenyan Embassy to get something sorted out…unakuta officials with the same rude attitude

I have ideas on how to efficiently monitor and manage the many diplomatic Kenyan missions and outposts but like I said they just ideas

@Shamsudin had written about this sometime back.

This one in the ‘Ukay’ is beyond redemption. The arrogance, the ‘ngonja hapo’ attitude…I will be in touch with you as I plan to partially gain my Kenyan nationality back at some point.

Kazi ya Itumbi statehouse iliisha. Hii nikutafta tu optics. Anataka kuonyesha vile association na yeye inaweza kukujenga.

I didn’t know that the deadline has been pushed back.
I heard Matiangi proposing Berlin, New York, Washington and I think Sweden. Are these centers working?
Well, seems I have to disrupt my schedule again.

I will applying for my passport next week what should I expect ? I really hate frustrations and from what am gathering here am afraid it’s not gonna be smooth all the way .give me the dos and the don’ts so that I may brace myself early in advance…

Govt officials ndo March everybody else sijui ni Aug or September

Enda kisumu. Its less busy

niliappy three weeks ago in kisumo but upto to date sijapata, nani atasaidia holloi polloi

Niliskia it takes around 45 days or more to be ready so be a little more patient .

I wish I could but huko Ni far sanar.

Get your application in order, take night bus. Do your application during the day. You’ll most likely be done by early afternoon. Take shuttle to Nairobi you’ll be there by 10/11 pm

Kama sio urgent tulia. Kama ni urgent enda na thao kama tatu ongea na huyo @pamba hapo kwa mlango

My dad tried this, kumbe alipata pamba pumbavu, jamaa nikamnunulie hakuwa anajua what is. It actually took longer than others who did not use that cop.
