There is a difference between the Prophetic Gift (Gift of Prophecy) and the Prophetic Office (Office of the Prophetic).They are said to be the same but they are not.

The Gift of prophecy is a TEMPORARY URGE given by the Holy Spirit where any member of the church who is born again and is walking in righteousness and obedience to the scriptures can be used by God to deliver a message ,to see and speak into the future or to receive previously unknown information that they or may not be instructed to speak publicly. This is done in order to bring wisdom, knowledge and understanding to the Body of Yeshua (Jesus Christ)

The Gift of the Holy Spirit (Ruach Hakodesh) comes and goes and is meant to operate in ALL who believe in Jesus Christ. Prophecy grows in proportion to our faith and therefore overtime one person may be greatly empowered to flow in the gift as their life becomes more surrendered, cleaned up and submitted to Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour. The gift of prophecy does the great work of Building up Believers by strengthening, comforting and reminding them that God is actively and intently involved in the lives of His people. It may also be used to tighten the walk of a believer or even the greater body by words of admonition, rebuke, warning and correction.

People used once or twice in the Spirit assume they must be used always, when the anointing is not present on them, and they still say things and expect it to be taken as prophecy.

It should be noted that it is the manifestation of the Holy Spirit and not the man who feel like saying things on his own leading. Problems have overflown in modern day Christianity because both the man and the people can’t tell the difference between when words are led by another urge altogether and that is how the defilement of the church comes.
