The main problem with this Invasion of Ukraine is that in the eyes of many Russians Putin is not bad because he started the war , but because he is losing it badly.

There is a strong argument that actually one of the worst things that may happen now is not for Putin to lose power but for his Oligarchs clique to maintain it.

That’s because it will give an easy way out both for Russia and the West while changing nothing in the long term and possibly putting us in the same (or worse…!!) spot in few years time.

If Vladimir Putin began looking for an exit policy for the Ukraine war, what might he do ???

He would first start by offering to withdraw but keeping Donbas and Crimea.

Ukraine would reject this immediately.

Then he would offer to leave Ukraine totally but Ukraine agree never to join NATO.

This would be rejected immediately.

He would then offer to leave Ukraine totally but have the Russian frozen assets unfrozen.

This will also be rejected.
At some point in the process he will threaten nuclear war.
But he has done that so much that no one pays attention.

Finally he will offer to leave totally on the condition there be no War Crimes trials.

This will be tough for Ukraine.
They certainly want justice but at the expense of many more Ukrainians dying…???

If Ukraine would agree Putin would no doubt look to a scapegoat to keep his job.
No doubt the military will be his scapegoat.
Sergei Shoigu as Minister of Defense will be the Lamb of Sacrifice.

But whatever the outcome, it would be Ukraine’s decision.
Not NATO’s.
Not the West.
Not the USA.

They are the ones who have endured the death and suffering.
They are the ones who have the right to decide.

Putin is avoiding collateral damage, but the west is prompting him to do so and have him prosecuted for genocide sort of crimes.

There’re traditionally important markets Russia will never recover fully. The EU is unlikely to be big consumers of Russia’s products even if they withdrew totally.

Msito Putin will prevail. He will keep his annexed regions, Crimea, Donbas and the rest. Ukraine will remail neutral, never joining NATO. And Ukraine will take a long time to recover after the battering they’ve received so far.

China is distancing themselves from any potential fallout leaving Iran and North Korea as the remaining markets for Russian goods and services…if any …

And the isolation will be maintained until there is a regime change in Russia…

Russia’s reason for existence is the protection of Slavic people. Hawa watu wamedharauliwa eti they are not pure bloods and are considered inferior and have been enslaved in the past. Russia started off small but worked to upgrade to world power just to protect its people. If you threaten any slav you have to deal with the bear. (for the brief period they went communist they extended this protection on ideological basis). Ukrainians especially in the west are not pure slavic and for centuries have been harassing Slavs in the East and South. The Bear had to put its foot down and this is why Putin has no exit strategy. Big Ka-boom! is likely to happen.

Russia might face more trouble. US, France and Germany are going to deliver more heavier tools to Ukraine. Marder, Bradley, Patriot… Not yet the top stuff NATO has, but seems to be incremental concerted action.
