UAP Insurance

2 months ago, wifey lost a necklace she had on. It wasnt snatched on the streets or anything, it just simply vanished from her person in between the house and the office. We searched the house thoroughly and the car, but it couldnt be found.
So I figure, no problem. The thing was insured anyway, I will just let my agent know and we will file a claim to UAP for the lost item. After all, back in 2014 she lost a gold bracelet in transit from JKIA to Kigali and UAP paid for it less excess.

So we get a police abstract reporting the loss, fill out the claim form truthfully and submit it. 2 weeks go by and UAP come back saying that they cannot fully pay for the necklace because of “undue care on the part of the claimant”.
I was livid! Isnt this why we pay insurance? for exactly this kind of losses? Fuck you mean “undue care”? My phone is insured but if it accidentally fell and broke, the insurance company is supposed to pay for its repair/replacement. Coming up with excuses to pay out is a speciality of theirs.

So after a lot of ranting by my agent, UAP agree to pay for the full value of the item less excess…With the following terms as a rider (direct quote from the email):
[ul]
[li]The excess will be increased to read 10% eel minimum Kshs. 20,000/=[/li][/ul]
[ul]
[li]you will provide a breakdown of the watches that are insured in the schedule[/li][/ul]
[ul]
[li]Due to the high value of the jewellery & watches our mutual client is handling, it is warranted that the jewellery and the watches will be stored in a safe (the client to confirm acceptance). I further informed you that the policy does not cover mysterious disappearances, going forward, kindly take note.[/li][/ul]

Does not cover mysterious disappearances??
UAP try to make it look like the only way things can go is if there is a burglary in your home or its stolen off you knowingly. Isnt that what “lost” means? Shit gets lost all the time. You cant explain how it vanished. Enough married men here at attest to losing their wedding rings because they just fell off and you didnt even notice it for days. Necklaces and bracelets break and fall away without ladies knowing.

Anyway, I “accepted” the terms since they only come into effect when its time for me to renew my cover which is 2 months time. Then UAP can fuck off coz I will changing insurance companies. They are sacks of lying dishonest shit who will do and say anything to avoid paying a genuine claim.
Moral of the story, DO NOT USE UAP.

I have heard a lot about UAP mostly not good news. There is a page called Pata gari online on Facebook where guys discuss cars and car related issues like insurance. A lot of the complaints I have seen have been about UAP.

There is something wrong in that company. Especially since Old Mutual came in. I hear they are being given mandates to reduce on paying out claims.

si ununue mpya or is it gold? smh

Why buy a new one when its already insured?

care now…show me an honest insurer and i will show you a rainbow at midnight…

wao huchagua zile claims watacover

it was gold. and that is why its insured.

Chupi Lee, show me a motherfucking rainbow tonight at 9pm. P. S Selfie is optional.

UAP are right, this is a mysterious disappearance and you were lucky to get anything. You mean there was no break in, robbery, snatching or anything. and how do you explain how it went missing? by it not being there. what if you found it under the sofa months later. The gold chain was supposed to be either in the safe or on your wife’s neck, anything else ni carelessness which cannot be compensated!
moral of the story: You were lucky to get anything

@junkie your input will be appreciated here

what is the chain just breaks, falls off and you have no idea? an engagement ring can slip right off your finger and potea?
You do not have an explanation for how it happened and its not because you were being careless. And in any case, the loss of the bracelet under similar circumstances should not have been paid.

@Lucky_Luciano what would the insurance company say if i dropped my phone and it ceased functioning? would they claim i was careless and hence they cannot pay for it? that is not the contract i signed with them. My insurance on the phone covers breakages and theft. Unless they can prove i threw it on purpose, they should pay up.

if the chain falls down they will detain the broken one and give you another one. What if you sold it and still want compensation?

from my view, atleast you have the damaged phone which will vindicate you… am thinking maybe UAP paid up the claim to retain a loyal client but not because they have not found you without any blame and am sure your next premiums will be increased.

@LowRider then why bother going through the trouble of getting an abstract saying it was lost? Saying it was snatched would be way easier.

@Lucky_Luciano that kind of thinking is what loses a company clients. You cant increase my premiums, increase my excess and then still refuse to pay if the same thing were to happen again. What they are doing is penalising customers at the expense of their bottom line.
